Some of Nietzsche's ideas on Love are quite interesting but his axiomatic ideas, e.g. how men and women differ and how hurting each other is built into 75% of all conversations is, to me, idiotic. ( )

I was a little bit afraid to start this collection of Aphorisms, because the last one I read, another one of the Little Black Classics, was a real disappointment. I'd previously only seen a little bit of Nietzsche in class, but was curious to what he had to say.

I can only speak for this short edition, which had some nice observation on human nature, which I liked although some seemed a bit random and it would have been nice as some more context could have been provided in this edition. On the other hand, his views on women and gender roles are very outdated, especially for someone seeing through a lot of other things. However, he -of course- was also just a man of his time, but I did deduct a star for it.

A very short collection of thought-provoking 'psychological maxims' (pg. 2). Nietzsche might be overstating it when he calls this sort of psychological and philosophical endeavour "the richest and most harmless source of entertainment" (pg. 1), but there are certainly worse ways to spend your time (and such a small amount of time too). Nietzsche's statements are ruthlessly interesting, but they are very much statements. The bitesize nature of the aphorisms means that the book lacks the comprehensiveness (in theme, not necessarily because of length) that a philosophical piece needs if it is to really influence how you think. Certainly, I'll be coming back to him. ( )

I enjoyed some of the ideas, I found a fair bit of the philosophy of women to be a bit off. I think it’s a good little introduction to Nietzsche, but he does have better works so it depends on the readers intent. ( )

The ideas and aphorisms of the famous German philosopher about morality, good and bad, and about human relationships. ( )
