When a mystery illness sweeps across the globe killing nearly everyone it touches, Jessica Monroe is forced to flee the city she's always known in hopes of survival elsewhere. Led to safety by a mysterious presence and joined in her safe haven by a kind and gentle man, she tries to balance the desire to search for other survivors with the reality of the desperate few that she has met thus far. I started this book yesterday thinking I'd leisurely read it over the next week. I was surprised to find that I could not bear to put it down for long. I finished it less than 12 hours after I began, simply because I had to know what happened next. This book is very well written. Right off the bat I found myself relating to Jessica and her family. The aspects of fantasy which are included in this story are introduced very gradually so that you can't help but accept them as plausible as they come along.
