This is a fun, eye-catching book for young children -- illustrations dominate the pages! – however, a stern critique should be avoided. It is clearly intended as a fun read, and in its own way, expands a child’s understanding of what a thanksgiving feast can be. Ms. Gibbons includes celebrations from other cultures very early in the book. However, since the title of her book becomes the leading line to introduces each new thanksgiving celebration, when she introduces the Pilgrims (to whom she devotes four pages) before the Native Americans (to whom she assigns two pages – points for using enlightened verbiage), and then marries their meeting into “The First Thanksgiving” (another two pages), her sequencing betrays her bias. But, please ignore that concern. This brightly-colored, easy read is a quick jaunt and should be a jolly escape for kids. ( ) This book is an informational book about thanksgiving. This author dose a fantastic job describing how thanksgiving evolved. the author also, gives the reader some fun facts and traditions about Thanksgiving. I would use this book during the thanksgiving holiday to inform my students. This book could also be used to describe why the author wrote this book to inform their reader. This books gives a history of how thanksgiving originated around the world and in the United States. It provides examples on how other people throughout time have celebrated Thanskgiving, such as the Jewish people or farmers in England in the Middle Ages. It also talks about the correlation between Thanksgiving in the past and how it is celebrated now. Good book! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Thanksgiving is turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. It is a holiday for remembering the Pilgrims and the Indians. Most of all, it is a time to share with family and friends, and a time to give thanks for many blessings. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
