Mother and child ponder the past in discussing who might have traveled down an old, old road, looking backwards from pioneer settlers all the way to prehistoric animals.

very good read aloud for kindergarden and first grade, and a good book for your classroom library for second. It is an easy read so I wouldn't go past second grade with this book. It talks of native americans and prehistory animals so it would be great for a history lesson.

I liked this story. I think this is a great idea to relay to students. There are so many questions that people ask and not every question can be answered, but it is still good to ask. I want my students to know that no question is bad and that I will do everything in my power to answer a question that they ask. I also think this is a good story because it is like a miniature history lesson. People always want to know where the came from and this basically sums it up for children with great illustrations to go with it. ( )

A young boy asks his mother who came down the road they are walking before them. She responds that there were pioneers, soldiers, Native Americans, buffalo, mammoths, fish and before it all there were questions of "the mystery of the making place." This book shows readers that before they got here there were many people and things here before them that helped this place become the place it is today. I think this would be a fantastic book to read to students when talking about ancestries. This book could be incorporated when making family trees, learning about our nation's founders, discussing Native Americans, comparing today's world to the old world, etc. ( )
