I probably waited too long to read this, but I could kind of follow where it was in the larger Fables timeline. One of my complaints toward the end of the main series was all the back and forthing with plotlines. There were only two plotlines in this one, and I was still jerked around every couple of pages.
I also thought it was bollocks that Meghan’s uncle and cousin were horrible and abusive at the beginning of the book, but then portrayed later as really loving her and secretly getting a surprise party ready for her (and Reynard had just misunderstood what was happening). Balls, I say. Balls. ( )

This volume was aright. It has it's funny moments and it's well drawn. However, Vertigo/DC decided to publish this after the Fables #150. The timeline in this volume is a little jumbled. I'd say read this before #150 and after Fairest in all the Land. ( )

Requesting and getting volume 5 in a series I haven't read before (well I think I may have started reading this series, but stopped reading for some reason) may seem to be a bit foolish and I was a bit worried that I wouldn't understand much and have trouble getting into the story.

But when I started reading this one was it hard to stop reading it. I will just read a couple of pages...oh the first issue is already finished?

I felt really sorry for Mr Webb that's feeling lonely. Probably the first time I felt story for a spider...



Mr Webb just wanted to have a normal relationship with his wife, but she can't stand his spider form and he can't change...



Meanwhile, Reynard Fox has gotten himself in some trouble and is now in Louisiana...



And everything goes a little bit crazy when Meghan sees his true form...hehe

I could have added a lot more fun screen caps, but seriously just read the damn volume yourself instead. Besides poor Mr Webb and Fox being whacked by a shovel is there stuff going on at the farm with the Fables growing frustrations at being stuck there!

Of all the the ways for Fairest to end, Reynard knocking up a random mundie girl, a murder mystery among the non-human fables, and the final tale of Goldielocks was not where I expected it to go.

It's a pretty good story though, all told. One of the best recent ones.

Goldilocks is perhaps the strangest character in this series. Which kind of fits? ( )

I knew that Fables was ending this year, but I figured that we had a while yet with this series. Apparently not, since this is the final collected volume of the series (though the story actually concludes in Fairest in the Land (which was published before the spin-off became an official series on its own). Fables may have finished strong, with a storyarc about the sisterly rivalry between Snow White and Rose Red, but this series didn't quite live up to expectations. The series is supposed to be about the female characters of Fabletown (the lesser known ones, essentially), but the focus of this storyarc are the non-human Fables on the Farm and their mania for getting transformative glamours (as promised previously by Prince Charming in his mayoral bid). The story could have easily focused on the group of Fabletown witches, since the majority are of a female persuasion, but they are barely featured in lieu of the crabby sunflower boy narrator and Reynard the Fox. Disappointing to say the least, but at least I won't really miss the series, since it wasn't living up to its earlier volumes which focused on the more interesting ladies of Fabletown - Lumi (the Snow Queen), Briar Rose, Rapunzel, and even the obnoxiously antiestablishment Goldilocks.
