"The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series. Alexa Holland's father was her hero-until her shocking discovery that her mother and she weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who's as damaged by her father's mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him. Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa's efforts at redemption, but it's not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair. Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he'll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again.... "--… (más)

LOVED LOVED I almost wish this was a trilogy but I loved it ( )

Effettive quattro stelle e mezzo. ( )

When Alexa Holland is fired from her job because she confronted Caine Carraway with their shared past, she doesn't know if she will ever work again. In order to smooth things over with Caine, she goes to see him, and he unexpectedly offers her a job as his PA. Even though Caine makes life for Alexa as tough as he can, she manages to slowly win him over until he can no longer resist their growing attraction. However, there is so much history and anger between them, that it isn't long before danger finds them as well.

There is a lot of angst and groveling in Hero, mostly by Caine, who acts and reacts badly throughout most of this book, making him a fairly unlikable character. It would have been more enjoyable if this book had contained both Alex's and Caine's perspectives so the reader would have a better understanding of Caine's choices. The bit of suspense that is added near the end of this book really doesn't fit with the story that is being told. Also, this book has Fifty Shades of Grey vibes which took me out of the story as I was reading it. Overall, Hero is a decent story about a PA and her boss finding love that neither of them really wants. ( )

I actually came to like this book more than I thought I would. Yes it drove me crazy sometimes, but the core story was good and I thought I would start with focusing on the things I liked in the book instead of everything that made me mad.

For instance, I liked the fact that Alexa's father and Caines mother had a history; a bad one which made Caine really, really had everything that had to do with Alexa.

I enjoyed reading about how they came to be more friendly throughout the book.

I liked Cains friend Henry Lexington and also Caines neighbor Effie. They made the book more fun to read, which were needed since with Alexa and Caine was it a lot of drama.

But there were things with the book that I didn't enjoy and for one thing was it all the jealously, Caine was jealous on every single guy that Alexa talked to. But Alexa wasn't that perfect either, she was jealous of every single female that Caine talked to. I don't think jealously is a good thing in a relationship that shows insecurity and possessives. Hell, that's not even good in the "not relationship status" that they had going after they had slept together for the first time. Caine was even jealous of his friend Henry when he helped Alexa with a printer...

That's another problem I have with the New Adult genre. It's so often instasex, and I don't even like instalove, but it's "I hate you, but I want you. Now let's fuck!" I think the inner girl inside me just wants to be romanced and this isn't romance for me. It's lust. This is good if you are looking forward to read it, but I seldom look forward to scenes like that. I like the kind of romance book when the characters slowly move their relationship forward. I can even take instalove if it isn't rushed into something that seems unreal.

Anyway, if you are looking for a New Adult book with a good core story, then this is perhaps something for you.

I debated between a 3 and a 4 so I went with the 4. I liked this one. I enjoy [b:On Dublin Street|15760001|On Dublin Street (On Dublin Street, #1)|Samantha Young|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1358249908s/15760001.jpg|21459719] by this author but I really prefer adult romance rather than new adult so that was a pleasant surprise for me. I liked the spunky heroine and the surly hero. There was a lot of plot here and it pretty much all made sense and flowed well. The hero's secret reason for pushing the heroine away was a doozy and was something I never expected. I would have preferred 3rd person POV but what are you going to do?

I would be happy to read more adult romance from this author. ( )
