The illustrations are wonderful and detailed. This wordless book can teach children about problem solving and can help spark imagination.

This book sparks the imagination and draws young readers in through its attention to vivid details and splashes of color. The story tells of a little piglet who is afraid of the dark and who devises a grand, elaborate scheme of various contraptions to keep his light burning at night. This book helps young children who are afraid of the dark to feel safe at night and to know that light is not far beyond the pull of a cord. Mostly, this book is striking through its visual appeal and intricate, detailed illustrations. It's not until the end of the book that an element of counting comes into play, and readers see that the little piglet's solution was not simple, but took a total of 29 carefully planned steps to create his night light invention.

I came across this wordless picture book and had to get it because I love Arthur Geisert’s pig stories and illustrations. If you visit my wordless picture book posts, you probably remember the book The Giant Seed that I reviewed awhile back.

The story begins with one page of text about a poor little piglet who is told by his parents that the lights must be out by eight o’clock. Little piglet begins to wonder how in the world he’s going to get that light to shut off after he falls asleep, rather than before. He has a big imagination and puts it to work. He devises a plan that includes an assortment of contraptions working together with the goal to turn the light off after he’s fallen to sleep. He uses a series of Dominoes, balls, bats, water, toys and pretty much anything he can use to make his plan work.

The etched illustrations are very colorful and detailed. It’s so much fun for kids to see his experiment in action as they turn from page to page. Will it work for piglet? Follow along in the story to find out!

This is about a little pig that is afraid to fall asleep with the lights off so he creates a system in his house that turns off the lights right when he is dozing off.
The system that the pig makes is very advanced. You could try and create something similar in the classroom. In the end of the book there is a diagram explaining the chain of events that happens so the reader can get the whole picture at once.

What would you do if you were afraid of the dark, and your parents said "lights out at eight o'clock!" In this story, a little pig constructs an elaborate contraption which turns off his lights, just after he falls asleep.
