The movie is undoubtedly more interesting than the book.
I like the idea of finding a wounded reindeer and taking care to get him back to Santa, but I emphatically DO NOT think that an 8-year-old child should be encouraged to "believe in her father or in her dreams," as a binary choice, especially when that father is not doing anything wrong.

The choice could possibly be posed to a teen, who could then struggle with the difference between opinions and evidence, but this girl (and the target audience) is too young for that kind of subtle sentimental propaganda ( )

I remember loving this book when I was a kid. I always thought the idea of rescuing/helping one of Santa's reindeer was just so... Magical. ( )
