Short and sweet book with four poignant stories with spiritual and emotional content. I am surprised that Tolstoy wrote a story with a Christian theme, for example.
I discovered in this little book one of my favourite quotes by Henry Van Dyke, an author I had never heard of before:
Who seeks for heaven alone to save his soul,
May keep the path, but will not reach the goal;
While he who walk in love may wander far,
Yet God will bring him where the blessed are.

And it is the correct time of year to read it, to put back the spiritual content into Christmas. ( )

A nice collection of Christmas themed short stories from O.Henry, Dostoevsky, Van Dyke and Tolstoy. I always loved The Gift of the Magi. such a sweet story. Dostoevsky has a story about 'Christ's Christmas tree' which is likewise sweet, though esoteric and strange. Van Dyke's The Other Wise Man and Tolstoy's Where Love is, God is both describe encounters with Jesus, albeit in unexpected guises. Well chosen collection. ( )
