Excerpt from Notes on Epistles of St. Paul: From Unpublished Commentaries The above explanation applies to the notes on the Two Epistles to the Thessalonians, and on the first seven chapters (for no more is here published) of the First Epistle to the Corinthians and of the Epistle to the Romans. In the case of the fragment of the Epistle to the Ephesians (eph. I. 1 - 14) no qualification is necessary; for in this case the Bishop's manuscript is written out fully, just as he intended it for publication in his contemplated edition of that Epistle. It thus represents his final judgment on these verses. In a few places, quotations, carefully specified, have been inserted from Dr Lightfoot's book 'on a Fresh Revision of the English New Testament (3rd Edition with an additional appendix, a work which, though published with a special purpose, yet contains a great amount of New Testa ment exegesis of permanent value.
