"The popular pastor and New York Times bestselling author of Love Wins and What We Talk About When We Talk About God shows us how to pursue and realize our dreams, live in the moment, and joyfully do the things that make us come alive. Each of us was created for something great--we just need to figure out what it is and find the courage to do it. Whether it's writing the next great American novel, starting a business, or joining a band, Rob Bell wants to help us make those dreams become reality. Our path is ours and ours alone to pursue, he reminds us, and in doing so, we derive great joy because we are living our passions. How to Be Here lays out concrete steps we can use to define and follow our dreams, interweaving engaging stories, lessons from biblical figures, insights gleaned from Rob's personal experience, and practical advice. Rob gives you the support and insight you need to silence your critics, move from idea to action, take the first step, find joy in the work, persevere through hard times, and surrender to the outcome.Like Stephen Pressfield's classic The War of Art, How to Be Here will inspire readers to seek the lives they were created to lead"--… (más)

I picked up Rob Bell's new book, having forgotten it came out, yesterday around 4PM. I started it at 10PM, read a bit, and picked it up again today. I was done with it in less than 2hrs. Looking at the page count, it was only about 100 e-pages, double spaced. It is a quick read.
It is also a good read. It tackles the idea of purpose, knowing one's own purpose, and balancing that purpose in a healthy way. Some have called it more of a self help book than a Christian book. I would agree with that, but with lots of spiritual elements to it. There is not a lot of quoted Scripture, for example, but there are places where Scripture could be applied. That is what I mean by spiritual. I don't think it is his best book, but a "bad" Rob Bell book is still better than many books. I found it a worthwhile read. I am not sure I will take a ton from it, as I have read similar books, but it is still good. ( )

I literally read this book in one day. I couldn’t put it down. It was EXACTLY what I needed to hear and I soaked up every word! ( )

I listened to How to Be Here on audiobook. Twice in a row. Which means I really liked it. The book was an blast of excitement, insight, and a kick in the pants on getting the most out of life. Don't wait; don't settle; don't become jaded or cynical or bored - life is a miracle waiting to be discovered. Open your eyes to the wonder surrounding you and there find peace and joy and love.

As always Rob communicates with precision and poetry, weaving fun stories with thoughtful ideas. Some might critique his exuberance for life as a type of wanderlust, typical for pop self-help books or L.A. culture, but I felt he balanced that idea well with "finding your craft," living in the moment, and being thankful for your opportunities, regardless of being less than your expectations. Sure, if you're looking for things to not like with the book, you'll find them. But for me, it was a joy.

If you're looking for a quick, encouraging read for living life well, this book is for you. ( )

Some excellent thoughts, but overall one of Bells weaker books. At times it feels too self-helpish, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's not as compelling and perspective shifting as his other works. It's still worth the read for sure! ( )

In How To Be Here, Bell helps us realize the incredible gift we have in being alive and asks us the question "What are you going to do with your life?" The big idea is that we have tremendous power to either create or destroy, right here, right now. This is a book about figuring out what God created you for, how to ditch past failures and stop comparing your story to everyone else's story. This book is a short, extremely easy read and is unlikely to offend anyone. ( )
