"Fraternal twin brothers Peter and Michael McDowell have spent a lifetime competing for success and affection before that competition turned into an all-out war and made the brothers mortal enemies. While both Peter and Michael have grown into successful adults, they never managed to leave behind the animosity that took root in their childhood. With the collapse of his career and his marriage, Peter sees no other option than to move into the lake cottage his parents left him in their will--a place where he and Michael spent their summers and the only place that sparks pleasant memories of his childhood. It's there that Peter and Michael's lives intersect, as they begin to make peace with the past"--… (más)

SERIES/STAND-ALONE: SA
CHARACTERS AUTHOR: Peter and Michael McDowell
TIME/PLACE: Present
FIRST LINES Peter McDowell sat in his office, surrounded by cardboard bankers' boxes after what had been the worst week of his life.
COMMENTS: A little different for Steel -- involved more of a psychological mystery element. This is the story of 2 twin brothers: Michael is the hometown family doctor and Peter is the big city financial wiz. Growing up the 2 were always at odds and Michael was the one that stayed close to home and followed in his father's footsteps becoming a family physician. Peter grew up w/ undiagnosed dyslexia and was quick to anger. When he went away to college he rarely returned feeling he was not wanted at home. When Peter loses everything in the 2007 financial crash he returns to Ware to the lake cottage he has inherited. Michael has married Maggie an invalid and she convinces her husband to make amends w/ Peter. The 2 are building a relationship … until their past differences become highlighted again. A pleasant, sweet, warm love story and enjoyed the element of suspense. ( )

Prodigal Son by Danielle Steel
Have enjoyed many works by the author and know this will be another good read.
Starts out with typical life for parents and twin boys. Growing up Michael always wanted to be like his father, the doctor.
He marries Maggie and they have a son and daughter. Bill flees to England and starts researching his mothers symptoms...
She had fallen once and now her husband is in charge of all her medicines and Bill thinks she's being poisoned.
The other son is rather a disappointment to the family and over time he learns about his disability that effects everything he does. He marries and has two boys but with the crash of the stock market he's out of luck and money and houses and cars.
His wife Elena flees to LA to live with her father and the boys and he's offered to help Peter also but he needs to do things on his own.
Amazing tale of the two families over the years and how they are brought together and more disturbing events occur, will it bring them together or draw them further apart from one another.
Love the travel and learning new things.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device). ( )

Prodigal Son provided an interesting contrast between an antisocial personality whose supposed charm has everyone fooled (this guy would actually fall into sociopathy) and a typical misunderstood troublemaker who happen to be fraternal twins. This was a good read. I found myself tempted to sneak a peak to the last chapter but managed to control the urge. ( )
