"Stephen Leeds, AKA "Legion," is a man whose unique mental condition allows him to generate a multitude of personae: hallucinatory entities with a wide variety of personal characteristics and a vast array of highly specialized skills. As the new story begins, Leeds and his "aspects" are hired by I3 (Innovative Information Incorporated) to recover a corpse stolen from the local morgue. But there's a catch. The corpse is that of a pioneer in the field of experimental biotechnology, a man whose work concerned the use of the human body as a massive storage device. He may have embedded something in the cells of his now dead body. And that something might be dangerous" --… (más)

Of course, one can only love this book. I very much like that there is a sequel to the first Legion book, and there is obviously room for more. A small peeve: in the first book Stephen's condition is only partially explained. That kept the reader thinking: if this is really all in his head, then how is this possible, and how can you explain that? In this book there was a lot more explanation, which I think was unnecessary. It takes away the little uncertainty that there might be an alternate explanation for what happens. Still, a lovely book, if too short, and I'm hoping for more sequels... ( )

Winter 2020 (January);
Sanderson Syspean Challenge

(I'm playing catchup on around 20-30 books since January started, so this morning's books will likely be a bit of an overview looking back on series from two months ago.)

The Legion novella series was a very interested, and very very different genre, to bounce through during the beginning of January (which sets me up as ready to read the 4th book in the series being published this year!!). I am always blown out of the water by how very different Sanderson series worlds are, and yet how each of them is so fully formed and fleshed out in every unique direction within them.

I am entranced and enchanted by the set of this world, and Leeds himself, as well as all his shadows around him. I love how different knowledge is compartmentalized and humanized, how varied the cultures, appearances, languages, backgrounds they present as. I'm very curious about where he will continue to take this story as he hadn't originally planned for it to go beyond this last story so far as I knew, until The State of the Sanderson at the end 2021. Good fun listening. Oliver Wyman did a good job narrating the many voices. I wasn't too surprised at the ending, but possibly that was by the author's design. It involved a trip to Jerusalem and much action, trying to find the creator of a camera which could take a photo of any point in history if it was on the spot. ( )

Really interesting story and premise. I would have given this 4 stars if it was just longer, it's a fast fun read and I hope Sanderson follows up this novella length story with a full length novel. ( )

Mmm..
