Ghosts of the Heart is the second book in the Shadows on the Trail Trilogy and takes place on the prairies and mountains of Colorado at the end of the Pleistocene, a time of major climatic change and mammal extinctions. It was a time when small tribes of humans fought to survive in a violent and unpredictable world. This is the continuing saga of the Folsom People, a prehistoric tribe of hunters and gatherers, who are venturing to an idyllic land called the North Country. This journey becomes an emotional thriller filled with the devastating forces of nature, predatory animals, and hostile tribes of humans. The seed for Ghosts of the Heart sprouted on an early summer morning in 2010 on a northern Colorado ranch where the author found a manmade Ice Age tool made from a red and gray striped rock found only in a prehistoric rock quarry in Texas. How did a prehistoric tool made from Texas rock end up in a prehistoric campsite in northern Colorado? Who made this tool? What was he or she like? What happened on the journey from Texas to northern Colorado? Since it was impossible to ask the prehistoric maker of the stone tool these questions, the author wrote his own version of this remarkable journey. John Bradford Branney Born and raised in Wyoming, John Branney has been searching for evidence of prehistoric man for most of his life. He has assembled a collection of several thousand North American prehistoric artifacts dating back to the latter part of the Pleistocene around 13,000 years ago. The author lives in Houston, Texas with his wife Theresa and their animal menagerie. The Folsom People called this moon cycle the Canwapitowi or the Moon of Green Leaves. After a brutally cold winter, the shoots of green grass were finally rising from the wind-swept tundra of the high altitude plateau.
