This is a short book about a little boy who's mom is coming home from deployment. Not many words but shows the true happiness of a parent coming home from being gone for so long. Ages 3-6 Pierce County Library

Every day, soldiers leave their families to protect others. The families miss them when they are gone and wait for their return. They are the heroes. ( )

Being a military spouse, this book was very powerful to me. A boy is waiting for his parent to get home from a deployment and the homecoming is so powerful and emotional as the reader that I got a little choked up. This book also did wonders for shutting gender roles. I don't want to give too much away, but as the reader, I was shocked at how brainwashed I was into assuming one thing over the over. ( )

This book is about a little boy that waits patiently for his mother to get off the plane at the airport. His mother is on her way home from deployment of serving our country for the military. This book has very little words, wonderful large real life graphics that enable the reader to really be a part of the book. This book is a wonderful example of the genre non-fiction realism. The media displayed in the book is drawing with water colors.

In my opinion this book was great. I was expecting it to be organized differently than it was, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is about a boy at an airport, who is waiting for his military mom to come home. I think some would categorize this book as a wordless picture book because there are only one or two words on each page, if that. Although the language was not descriptive, I didn’t feel like the book was lacking or needed more words because the pictures went above and beyond. The illustrations were very impressive and told a story all by themselves. On each page you could really feel the boys emotions and exactly how he was feeling in that moment, just by looking at the pictures. For example, on one page, as people are getting off the plane and meeting up with their families, the boy is still looking for his mother and you can see a worried and upset look on his face as he looks around at everyone else. The only word on this page is, “waiting.” Another example of the amazing illustrations is towards the end when he first sees his mom. The reader knows that it is his mom because we see someone standing with boots, military pants, and a bag, while the boy is facing the figure with a big smile on his face. After watching the boy anxiously await his mom to get off the plane, seeing this picture makes the reader feel happy and relieved. Since the illustrations were so strong, the boy was well-developed in the story and the reader can understand what he is experiencing on each page. The big idea is to show the emotions someone goes through when they are missing someone that they care about and how they feel when they get to see them again. ( )
