Jack is a simple and short story about a little boy who dreams of living in the city. His Grandpa encouraged him to set out on an adventure to the city to ask the King for a house there. Along the way he picks up many animals and they all go with him to the city. When they get there, th King has the perfect spot for them, and we learn that Jack gets to live in the city with all the animals. I thought this was a good book for children who seek adventure, and it is a fun and easy read. ( )

This story is about a young man named jack who wants to live in the city and leave his small village. When he asks his grandfather, he advises him to go ask the king to find him a house. Along the way, he meets a lot of animals who ask if they can join him on his journey. When he gets to the king, he hands him the key to a house that would be big enough for Jack and his friends but needed some work. I love this book for many reasons. The first and main reason why I loved this book is because of its calm nature. This book is different from the rest of Tomie dePaola’s books. It is a lot calmer and the illustrations are once again beautiful. The story is full of rich detail, from the music coming out of Jacks mouth to the noise coming from the animals. Expressions are written next to character too. For example, chuckle and grumble. I saw some nursery rhymes in the story too. I really enjoyed reading this story and would recommend it for others to read! ( )

This book is a sweet story about Jack who goes on an adventure to find a home, along the way he meets friends who complete the journey with him. The illustrations are done in acrylic paint and help to set the mood and overall tone of the writing. This I think is a historical fantasy, because it has a historical kingdom, and kind of talking animals.

This is a realistic fantasy piece about a boy named Jack who wants to move to the city and make new friends. His grandfather suggests that he goes and requests this home from the king. So, along his way to talk to the king he picks up a wide variety of friends--farm animals. Each of the animals speaks to him in English, however the illustrations demonstrate the sound effect each animal makes. When Jack finally arrives to the king, he is given a home to fix. And so, Jack fixes up the home for him and his farm animal friends. ( )
