Pitman, illustrated by Kristyna Litten is a book that encourages and supports excitement, acceptance and acknowledgment for all people – gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allies, alike. It’s written with simple text and robust imagery – each page aligning in color scheme to know unity, and equality throughout the book. It’s approachable for young children and adults alike. This book allows for children to see mirrors of themselves, or their family members as well as windows – to a world of people who may live differently than they do, but are celebrating their love and joy! The Reading Guide and Note to Parents/Caregivers at the end of “This Day In June” is a fantastic and supportive section and one I found important to read and understand what would be most appropriate to share with children of different ages. This book won the 2015 Stonewall Book Award, and was a 2015 Notable Books for a Global Society Award, along with many others. One quote I loved was “All Invited, all excited” to show the inclusive nature of both pride and this book. This book introduces LGBTQ and the pride that takes part in it. I loved the illustrations and raw representation of this community. This is an incredible book that should be introduced to children at a young age because they are very aware of the world around them. We need to be able to feel comfortable and discuss such topics. I am becoming more familiar with the community each and everyday. I really enjoyed this simple picture book that portrays a strong message. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
