Seriously adorable picture book -- love the images, love the woodland creatures of it all. What I like most is that it is far more intricate than it first appears -- in imagery, alphabet and story. The story is simple, but does a fabulous job of following the year around, bringing in both the months and the seasons. It stays neutral on the the holidays, though, so good for any kid. Very focused on being outdoors and exploring and using your imagination as part of play. Lovely, lovely work. ( )

This is an absolutely adorable book! The pictures are charming and the rhymes are sweet. It isn't an alphabet book that's just for teaching the letters, it is enjoyable to read as a story book. My kids love the book, and every time we read it they like to talk about all the things the animals are doing, and it's given them lots of ideas for play. It also follows the months of the year, which is great for my five year old who is just learning them. One of my big qualifiers for how much a book gets read is always how much I enjoy it, and this is a book I find myself reaching for often, it's quickly become a favorite of everyone in my family. This alphabet book can be used in so many ways with children from ages of months to at least age 7. First, the cute illustrations appeal to readers of all ages; teaching letters to young ones, and later teaching the older children how to read with short rhyming verses. A very nice addition to the library.
