Advance copy received through Netgalley Patricia Briggs juggles about five different plots with this Alpha and Omega installment and does so gracefully, never letting the interest or action lag. Reading this made me want to go back and re-read the Alpha and Omega novella for the millionth time. And I probably will. I love the world Briggs has constructed over the years with her two overlapping series. The werewolves' way of life is so ingrained at this point, any reader can see potential dangers and character conflicts. So when a new werewolf is made in this book, we all know the stakes are high. Good thing Anna is there, with Briggs' wonderful reinterpretation of what an Omega wolf is all about. I've always thought Briggs must have a soft spot for horses, mainly when I've read her older fantasy; now it's front and center, as Charles and Anna travel to a friend's ranch in Arizona to get a horse for Anna. There turns out to be a deeper reason for taking the trip at this time, to this place, and we get a look into Charles' past, probably the biggest so far in the series. Lots of cool fae action in this one too. I'm not always a fan of how the fae come into urban fantasy plots, but I enjoy Briggs' take. The looming war between the fae and the humans is growing ever closer, and I can't wait to see how things go. Reading this early means I have that much longer to wait until the next one. Rats. 2019 reread: This held up nicely. I liked seeing Anna and Charles in this setting, working with characters new to me—with the exception of the wonderful Leslie—on a crusade to rescue a kidnapped child. I’m not sure what I was thinking in my original review with the line about five different plots, but the book did address multiple issues while following the main plot, and it was done well. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Sani family again in future books. 2021 reread: I know I’ve given it 5 stars every time, but I felt like I especially enjoyed this the third time through. I loved all the horse business, and it really was tightly plotted. I had forgotten how much I liked the Cantrip agents in this one—I hope I see them again. I was also glad there was no funny business with the mating bond. Yay! 2022 reread: Not much to say, except this unexpected reread was as enjoyable as all the rest! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"For once, mated werewolves Charles and Anna are not traveling because of Charles's role as his father's enforcer. This time, their trip to Arizona is purely personal-or at least it starts out that way... Charles and Anna soon discover that a dangerous Fae being is on the loose, replacing human children with simulacrums. The Fae's cold war with humanity is about to heat up--and Charles and Anna are in the cross fire" -- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

It wasn't bad--there was good characterization, lessons learned, blah, blah, blah, but it felt, IMO, like a book meant to keep the series going rather than integral to the series. ( )
