Beloved author Ronald Rolheiser continues his search for an accessible and penetrating Christian spirituality in this highly anticipated sequel to the contemporary classic, The Holy Longing. With his trademark faculty and thoughtfulness, Rolheiser undertakes the writings of St. John of the Cross and shows how identifying and embracing the three stages of discipleship-Essential, Generative, and Radical-will lead to new heights of spiritual awareness. In this new book, Rolheiser takes us on the journey through "the dark night of the senses and spirit." Here, we experience pleasure and fervor, disillusionment and boredom. But when we embrace the struggles and yearnings to know God, he shows us we can come together and apply this newfound understanding to our daily lives.… (más)

Ronald Rolheiser is a brilliant writer who, in this book, writes especially for those of us who are, later in our lives, attempting to deepen our spiritual lives and nurture a greater sense of God in every moment. Especially helpful for its perspective on how older believers can assist younger ones, this book is full of reassurance that aging does not mean ending. Like the work of Henri Nouwen, this book allows the reader to see diminishment / illness / denouement as the sort of "cracking open" of God's goodness and mercy.

Audience: Older adults of faith and those who work with them will benefit from reading this book. ( )
