Fiction. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:In this thrilling novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra—the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Sleepers, Gangster, and Midnight Angels—organized crime goes to war with international terrorism in the name of one man's quest for revenge.

My name is Vincent Marelli, though most people call me The Wolf. You've never met me, and if you're lucky you never will. But in more ways than you could think of, I own you.

I run the biggest criminal operation in the world. We're invisible but we're everywhere. Wherever you go, whatever you do, however it is you spend your money, a piece of it lands in our pockets.

You would think that with that kind of power I would be invincible. You would be wrong. I made a mistake, one that a guy like me can never afford to make. I let my guard down. And because I did, my wife and daughters are gone. Murdered by terrorists with a lethal ax to grind.

That was my mistake.

But it was also theirs.

I wasn't looking for a war with them. No one in my group was. But they've left me with nothing but a desire for revenge—so a war is what they'll get. The full strength of international organized crime against every known terrorist group working today. Crime versus chaos.

We will protect our interests, and I will protect my son. We won't get them all, but I will get my revenge, or I will die trying.

They will know my name.

They will feel my wrath.

They will fear The Wolf.
BONUS: This edition includes Lorenzo Carcaterra's short story "The Vulture Game."
Praise for The Wolf

"Lorenzo Carcaterra is one of my favorite writers in the world, and The Wolf is his best book yet. In it you'll meet the superbly crafted crime boss Vincent Marelli—and then you'll spend this riveting read trying to decide whether Marelli, like Michael Corleone, is a hero or a villain. Pick up a copy of The Wolf and you won't put it down until the surprise ending!"—Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestselling author of Accused

"Binds a strong confessional voice with a taut revenge plot."New York

This is fast paced action novel that gives an interesting view on what would happen if (or maybe when) organized crime would cross its path with the religious terrorists. Novel reads like fast paced action manga (Crying Freeman comes to mind when you read this) and I am sure readers who like more serious approach to gangsters wont like the way they are presented here (although to claim that organized crime does not exist in international scope is also stuff of fiction).

So keep in mind this novel is meant to entertain.

Recommended for fans of action and shadowy organizations.

It was okay and easily readable. But everyone sounded the same. It always disappoints me when the characters don't have distinct voices and thinking. I did manage to finish the book but I won't be picking anything up by the same author ( )

Wolf by Carcaterra was an interesting, full bodied and entertaining book. i got caught up in the unusual plot of the book which involves pitting the crime bosses against terrorists with a Russian thrown in to add flavor. I enjoyed the book though others have said that his earlier book was even better. Think there will be a sequel and I am waiting for that one.

I received a kindle copy of The Wolf: A Novel by Lorenzo Carcaterra from NetGalley for fair review. I gave it an almost five star.

It is a very fast read. It is also brutal. It is crime fiction at its best. The family is a veritable United Nations of Crime.

It's about Vincent Marelli, though most people called him The Wolf. He was a cautious man & protective of his family. He was also a proud man & pleased with the crime empire he had created.

"So, going against my nature & judgment I agreed to allow some air into my hermetically sealed world. For my kids & for Lisa."

Going against his nature was a mistake, for his wife & girls were killed. His son Jack had stayed behind to fly with him. Terrorists took over the flight & sixteen people were killed, including the terrorists. A Silicon Valley executive & his son were seated where Vincent & Jack would have been & they were killed. His wife's throat was slashed & she bled out. His oldest daughter was shot & his youngest daughter had her head smashed by a fire extinguisher wielded by a teenage terroriest with six young sisters of his own.

Anthony Zambelli had earned two dollars for every five dollars spent on luxury cruise ships. He expanded the restaurant holdings & "turned the enforced sale of twigs of parsley into a fifteen million dollar a year operation."

The brilliant Meyer Lansky was the first gangster labled as a certified genius. A Mexican gangster, Santos was at "his happiest when he was sowing seeds of torment."

One terrorist expressed that if the bombs didn't go off on a timely basis, "Otherwise, we all get to meet the virgins this morning."

'I hope not, Bruno said, 'I haven't had my coffee yet.'"

Angela, the Strega (the witch) was designated to help Vincent gain his revenge for his family. The Strega was a talented assassin..."she struck quickly & harshly....She operated under the centuries honored code of the Camorra--kill all in your path & leave behind nothing but blood & ruin." She was the most ruthless mob boss in Europe.

Vincent was glad she was on his side.

This page turning book had grief & blood on each page. There are no happy endings for gangsters.
