I had mixed feelings about this book because there was no overall moral or plot. It told the story of a tradition still practiced in some parts of Spain known as siestas, which is a nap taken during the day. This book would probably be more suitable for preschoolers or kindergartners because of how beginner friendly it is. If not it could be read by the teacher because it is bilingual, which could be difficult for that age group, but I personally enjoyed. I loved the vivid illustrations and how it included traditional Hispanic artifacts, such as a manta, which is a beautiful colorful blanket that is handmade. I also enjoyed how color of the text was the same color as the words, and so were the rooms in the illustrations. I also enjoyed the use of personification with the teddy bear in the illustrations. Although I did enjoy this book, it is a very beginner friendly and I probably wouldn’t use it in the classroom. This picture book is written in Spanish with English translations on the same page. The book includes short sentences using colored text to highlight written words of colors. Each page of the named color is mostly illustrated in that color. This wasn't something that I noticed until a few pages in, as it's not obvious, but done very carefully and purposefully. The two children get prepared for their rest time and find all the materials they need to take with them. Summary: Spanish / English picture book that focuses on random household objects and different colors. Perfect for a very young reader who is just learning how to identify things around the house and likes to point out different colors. High contrast and very brightly colored pictures makes this a fun read! Personal commentary / reflection: This would be a great book for a bi lingual preschool or an ESL preschool. I picked it out in an effort to look at a different genre and I really liked how the text was written in both English and Spanish. This would be a great addition to an educational language learning environment. Siesta is a wonderful book to use in the classroom, especially if there are students who are bilingual or who don't speak English as their first language. The book contains many examples of colors and household objects in which the characters (a brother and sister) say in both English and Spanish. For example, "¿Algo Más? Anything Else? Mi flauta verde. My green flute." The text highlights the color words in both Spanish and English in the colors that they represent. I believe that this provides an aid for both English and Spanish speakers and makes learning the other language easier. While there is no deeper message that is being conveyed, Siesta could be a wonderful tool to use in any classroom. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
