Learn about New York City, the beloved home to the author and illustrator of this book! This is a great book for elementary school aged children, who will learn facts about New York's history to the present day. Of course all of the landmarks are beautifully depicted through the artwork and illustrations of this book. You definitely get the feeling that the author really loves his city and is excited to share it with young readers. Having never been to New York City, I sure want to visit even more now that I have read this wonderful book!

From Marc Brown, the creator of the immensely popular Arthur picture-book series, which has also been turned into a television show, comes this love-song to New York City. Beginning on a long-ago night when he was eight years old, and his family traveled from their hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, to the great city, Brown chronicles the history, sites and experiences of his adopted adult home. Many iconic New York museums, monuments and parks are mentioned, as the narrator provides a tour of America's largest city...

A thoroughly enjoyable book, especially for this New Yorker, In New York casts a fairly wide net, looking back first to historical New Amsterdam, before fast-forwarding to today's city. I don't read a great many of these travelogue picture-books, but I found Marc Brown's contribution to the genre quite entertaining, and I appreciated the watercolor and gouache illustrations, which were colorful and appealing. The decorative end-papers, which contain lots of "New York City Sketches and Notes," were also a pleasure to pore over. Recommended to New York kids, and to kids visiting New York for the first time. In New York takes us through the city of New York through the eyes of a young boy. After touching on a little history, the book takes the reader to various landmarks and points of interest in New York including the Empire State Building, the subway system, Rockefeller Center, and the Statue of Liberty. Weaved in are facts about the city. ( )
