SUPER CUTE POEM BOOK!!!! I 1000000% recommend this book! I can't stress enough how cute this book is. Each page has a different poem! These poems are definitely some of the cutest, funniest, sweetest poems I have ever read. I love animals, however dogs are my favorite. These poems not only gave narrative information about dogs and told stories, but some of them were so funny and cute! I definitely plan on buying this book to keep in my future classroom and I 100% recommend anyone to get this book! The illustrations are so cute too! Some of the poems are concrete and the way the words are written represents what is being said. For instance, one of the poems was talking about dogs rolling over and the way they spelled "rolling over" was spelled correctly, however it was written upside down and backwards to represent rolling over! Super cute book! ( )

“From the Doghouse Poems to Chew On,” is a dramatic mask poem. It is a story of poems told by a dog. The author uses a lot of end rhymes in the poems. Also, the author uses consonance in some of the poems. The author also uses personification by making the dog the narrator because he is telling his story. In the poem, we see words that are onomatopoeia. For instance, the author uses the words zoom when talking about a car ride. The author writes, “marvelous machine” this is called alliteration. The two words have a repeated sound. Overall this collection of poems was very well written and fun to read. ( )

This is a charming book filled with a series of poems about dogs, from a dog's perspective. The tone is cheery and playful, just like a puppy. The illustrations compliment the tone. They are done in beadword, which looks really cool. The beadwork is intricate but the pictures are still simplistic and fun. I would like to read students this book when we are working on poetry. After learning about various forms of poetry I would ask students to choose a form and write a poem about a pet or any animal, from that animal's perspective. I think children would enjoy this and having to think in an animal's mindset will use a good deal of creativity. ( )

A collection of doggy poems that gives an inside look on what we think dogs might be thinking. My favorite poem was "Doggy Nightmare", which was about a dog who thought he was going crazy because when he tried to bark he meowed, but turns out was only a nightmare. Also, the illustrations done in this book are quite unique because they are beaded, all done by hand with beads and fabric which brings an interesting texture and life to the illustrations. ( )
