Emily McCully's "Little Ducks Go," is about a mother duck trying to get to her baby ducks that fell into a drain. The mother duck is chasing after them on a street trying to get to them, when a man comes and saves her ducklings for her. This story is a cute story to read to your class as a fun story for a short break. This would be a good story to allow your students to share their reactions and use their imagination to predict what will happen to the ducklings. ( )

Speaking of text complexity, check out this book alongside the story of the Montauk ducklings who feel into the drain when they followed their momma, to be helped by a neighbor. The authors had to both be inspired by the same real story although McCully does not credit the real story. ( )
