Reading a Young Adult novel is rather outside of my comfort zone, but this one is such a fantastic one, I did not find it too be difficult. It is written in The first person deep point of view, which means the whole book is written completely from Shannon's perspective. This was cool, because I was not at all distracted by the other characters agenda, thoughts or actions. Melody gives us a fresh look at the Amish which in this time where a lot of attention is being given to this lifestyle and their religious beliefs, seems like a difficult job.
Many aspects are brought to life, from their dress, work ethics and ordnance. Although we read a lot of books where the Amish way of life is romanticized as Shannon looks in from the outside, she sees the other side as well.

I received this book free from Fred at The Book Club Network and Revell books in exchange for an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own. ( )

MY AMISH BOYFRIEND by Melody Carlson is an interesting Inspirational Amish Teen Fiction set in Amish country in Ohio. Meet sixteen - year old, Shannon McNamara as she and her mother move to Ohio in the Amish country. Her mother has fallen ill and so off they go to her relatives who can help them. Shannon meets a young Amish boy, Ezra, but is he what or who she really thinks he is or what she really wants in life?

"My Amish Boyfriend" is not just another Amish tale of a simple life but a tale of struggles, hardship, decisions, faith and so much more. This story has so much to offer not just teens, and young readers, but adults as well. It shows us so much and once again Ms. Carlson has written a story of faith, family, friendship, with spiritual truths and the struggles teens are faced with on a daily basis. It was interesting to watch as Shannon matures and grows not only in her faith, but in her desires also. A quick read! Well done, Ms. Carlson! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Melody Carlson is back and great as ever with another fabulous young adult novel! I love her Amish stories. They are always written so wonderfully and take you to the heart of simple living. This novel was full of characters that steal your heart and situations that had you praying for the characters.

Since the school year has ended, teenaged Shannon McNamara's goal is to get a tattoo, her drivers license, and a summer job. Because of her mother's serious health condition Shannon and her mom travel to Ohio to stay with Amish relatives. Shannon's grandparents are not the most welcoming, and numerous challenges ensue. Shannon falls in love with a local Amish boy, and her summer plans appear to be looking up. She becomes interested in possibly becoming Amish; however, her mother's health is rapidly declining and their challenges grow serious.

Written more specifically for teens and young adults this story of outsiders moving into an Amish community is appealing to all ages. Melody Carlson paints beautiful scenes of the Amish countryside, and presents the Amish realistically and with expertise. Her characters are unique and original. The story is written in the first person through Shannon's perspective which I found a bit unsuited for my taste, because the level of maturity from her point of view was far more advanced than a typical teenager. This is only my opinion. Others may love this perspective and not have a problem with it. The story moves at a fast pace, and the developments that take place keep the reader turning the pages to see what the outcome will be. My Amish Boyfriend is an enjoyable light read.
