I devoured this book in three sessions within a 24-hour period. Breakneck pace from page one, intricately detailed plot that kept you guessing as much as the MC tried to guess who his true allies and friends were. The MC, Wolfgang Schmitt, is cocky, good-looking, witty, smart--brain-wise and streetwise--, and just enough of a smartass to get himself into trouble. But under that bad boy facade is a decent guy who risks his neck for the right things ... and if a few million bucks drop into his lap on the way to performing his heroic good deeds, then all the better. The author is a master storyteller and plotter (see his books on story structure and story physics) and it shows. He escalates the stakes page by page until you think the characters have either no more to give or no more to lose. Great fun, entertaining, and instructive for those of us who are writers trying to understand how to construct compelling stories featuring sympathetic characters. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"Wolfgang Schmitt, ex-underwear model, self-proclaimed wisecrack, and cynical copywriter turned undercover agent, is biding his time, unsure how to spend the millions he scored after his recent undercover mission for the FBI. Complicating matters is the fact that he might be called in for a new mission; if it's off the books and calls for a touch of seduction, Wolf is the man for the job. But, in Wolf's words, shit-storms come in threes. On the same day Wolf is visiting his mother in a nursing home, he makes three troubling discoveries: the place is going under and he may need to step in; the stash in his offshore account has completely vanished; and the promising new woman in his life is actually a Fed, vetting him for another undercover gig. His mission: to entrap a casino-owning couple suspected of involvement with the organized crime factions piping untold amounts of money through the gambling mecca's glamorous underworld. All of this seems nearly impossible to pull off, probably illegal as hell, and if this is anything like his last gig, nothing is as it seems. Full of crime, passion, and betrayal, Deadly Faux finds Wolf cornered in a dangerous undercover mission in Sin City, forced to use his wits, charm, and gambler's luck to survive in the dark underbelly of Las Vegas"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

In his new novel, Deadly Faux, author Larry Brooks takes his character Wolfgang Schmitt, ‘Wolf’, a cynical ex-undercover agent turned writer, turned reluctant undercover agent again, and drops him into a pickle barrel with some ugly cucumbers and a lot of vinegar.
Wolf’s foes and friends for this fun read consist of the Las Vegas Mafia (new and old school), the FBI (some real, some as fake as the Vegas strip) beautiful (though deadly) women, Joe Pesci type goons, incognito agents, spies and of course a hotel surveillance system to rival the US government and make what Orwell imagined in his novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four look amateurish.
Deadly Faux is a good-guy-bad-guy stew – who is who? Who’s doing what to who and why? And is that meat really someone’s finger? – seasoned with snappy dialogue, sarcastic humor, heart, and high stakes that just keep climbing. And Wolf is a Danny (Josh Duhamel in Las Vegas) like character who frequently finds himself in uncomfortable situations without his clothes.
