This was an interesting story, if for no other reason than I've never heard of Anna Howard Shaw despite her apparent importance. This book did for me what no other book or teacher or documentary did; informed me about someone who deserved to be known. This is a good biography. The text is very readable, which seems to be Don Brown's trademark skill, he makes biographies that are easy to understand. A good read. ( ) After reading this book based on a true story it was really empowering. I personally believe that this story would be a better read to a classroom of children in the third grade and above. I think the message this story shares would be more meaningful to them. The illustrations in this book told the story very well, however, I believe it would get childrens attention better if they were more colorful. I could use this story in my classroom to show children that you can really do anything you put your mind too. This lady came from a family where they did everything on there own and she never had any education but graduated from college because she was determinded to do what she believed was made for her to do. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

By the time Anna Howard Shaw was barely twelve years old, she had crossed the stormy Atlantic (one and a half times), survived a grueling journey from Massachusetts to the unexplored woods of Michigan, and helped create a house and home in the middle of nowhere. By most measures, Anna Howard Shaw’s life was hard and filled with struggle. But a life in the North American wilderness also had many pleasures. Anna was young, happy, and strong. What Anna didn’t have was school. With incredible fortitude and purpose, not only did Anna go on to teach school herself, she also accomplished a great many other things, including helping to win the right to vote for women. With his magical storytelling and radiant artwork, Don Brown welcomes us into the pioneer life of a most extraordinary woman. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
