( ) I thought Jane Yolen's book, How do Dinosaurs Learn Their Colors, was a very cute book for very young children. One thing I liked about it was the authors use of rhyming words to enhance the rhythm of the story. For example, the author writes, "a purple towel left on the floor, a green sign taped on the door." I also liked how the author uses text features to show how the word corresponds to its color. All the text on the pages are black, but when the author says a color he writes that color in its own color font. The big idea of this story is to help beginning readers learn their colors. Summary: The story about colors just talked about things in the dinosaur’s world that were a certain color. He learned his colors repeating the colors of these things. The story about playing with friends shows how nice the dinosaur is when his friends come over to play. It tells how he shows his toys and lets his friends go first. Personal response: This was a fun book for me since it was two books in one. I enjoyed the different story types as well as the pictures used to illustrate the story. Extension ideas: I would use the color story as a teaching tool for learning colors. I would have the students name something at their house that is the color the dinosaur is referring too. The story about playing with friends is a good one to share with students to show them how important it is to share and put others before themselves. Pertenece a las series
The bestselling, award-winning team of Yolen and Teague present their third original dinosaur board book, a fun read-aloud that teaches children all the colors of the rainbow. "Un dinosaurio aprende estos colores primero: Bajo la cama, el rojo del camión de bomberos. Una toalla morada tirada en el suelo. Un cartel verde que dice te quiero". Con increíbles ilustraciones y un texto rimado, este nuevo libro de la serie de los dinosaurios cautivará e inspirará a los niños mientras aprenden los colores.
