So I don't know why, but this book did not hold my attention well at all and only the last 20% of the book was really any good. I'll read the next book in the series, but only because it's the last one and I want to finish it. Hopefully, it's more like the last two and better than this one. ( )

What can I say about The Queen of Zombie Hearts by Gena Showalter that haven't been said already? Well, in my opinion, it wasn't half as good as Alice in Zombieland, because it felt somewhat rushed. In Alice in Zombieland we have to read between the lines to find the Alice in Wonderland metaphors, which I loved. In The Queen of Zombie Hearts, we don't have that pleasure, because for some reason Gena Showalter spelled every reference out to the reader ... I'll admit that I expected this to happen ever since I finished Through the Zombie Glass, but it still sucked when my premonition became a reality. The chemistry between the characters are, at best, meh. Sure, we get more Ali-Cole sexy time, but the whole book felt rushed. The sexy time felt rushed. The dialogue felt rushed (and somehow weak). Everything just felt rushed and unimportant in the long run. The cheesy ending (you know, the part where the "Queen of Zombie Hearts" thing is revealed) made me physically grimace in disgust. Oh, and don't even get me started on the not-so-surprising-but-still-kind-of-surprising-in-its-own-way death. Where was the emotion, Gena? WHERE?!
I know I'm being harsh, but his trilogy could have been so much better. I absolutely loved the first book. The second book really wasn't that bad either, but this third book simply didn't inspire the same love and devotion.

Nevertheless, The Queen of Zombie Hearts wasn't that terrible either. I mean, I've read worse, but unless you've started to read the trilogy I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a proper (and unique) zombie trilogy.

It's just lacking, gosh darn it! WHY IS IT LACKING?! *le sigh*

Finally, there are some answers to all the questions I have had about this world. Ali's backstory gets much bigger, and the rules of zombies are more clear. This book is grim ... the war is much closer to home. ( )

To be honest this series is starting to bore me. IT took me ages to read this purely because of that.
If I hadn't already purchased #4 I would stop here. This book is really showing the fact it is aimed at younger adult readers (I would not recommended to under 15s due to sexual content and violence or over 25's due to lack of intelligent plot). The main characters Cole and Ali are starting to piss me off - they are basically covering the exact same issues they dealt with in book #2 for most of this book (visions predict doom, Cole not believing anything Ali says, etc.) It is really only the final few chapters where any real plot movement takes place. What a fantastic ending to this series, other than the fact that I didn't want this series to end. I've been entranced with these characters so deeply since book one, that it was very bittersweet to say goodbye. In fact, I can definitely see these books being re-read in the future. New twists and shocks are thrown at us in this installment and new abilities for not only Ali but the rest of the crew as well. Alliances are formed, betrayals are made, and sadness is inescapable. It was fast paced, exciting, heart wrenching and everything I've come to love from this series. A must read for fans of the series, zombie lovers, and fans of Ms. Showalter alike! ( )
