The art is fantastic, especially for the fight scenes, and the history is interesting, but the story is a little too one-note to hold my interest, even with the father-and-son tale at its heart. There are only so many battles I can read through before I start craving character development and nuances of relationships and more varied perspectives. And while the focus on men and male-dominated action doesn't generally bother me, it's worth noting that almost none of the women in the book are more than silly caricatures. I think I could write the same review for almost every mangas I've read(granted, it's not that many) Nice pencil, kinda confusing in battle scene, and the translation shows there is a barrier btw the original language(japanese) and ours. Sometime the panel has no real connection to what is being said. We have an angry boy who will rise to power, but right now, is getting taught in various ways about the basic facts of life. And we get the throwback stories near the end of this volume. That said, again, we get the start of what looks like epic. I love the storytelling of mangas, even if it feels overly familiar. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

FOR HONOR AND VENGEANCE As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band's leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery...the land Leif called Vinland. The depth that went into this with a lot of research was incredible. The artwork did stand out with the characters, background and emotion. I almost cried near the end of this volume.
We meet Thorfinn, who swore to kill Askeladd. We only see this in a gist, and then we are returned to where Thorfinn grew up. He loved to hear stories told by Leif Ericson. He wanted to join his father on board and didn't understand why he couldn't go.
When a warship comes to take the men from the village . . . Thorfinn hides on his father's ship.
If you are into Vikings or Norse Mythology - this manga is for you. ( )
