The Truth About You is mesmerizing! I could hardly put it down. Susan Lewis creates characters that become friends. Lainey is well-to-do without being snobby and Tom is the typical husband; self-absorbed in his role as the eccentric writer and family provider. The story Lewis creates about their lives is engaging and inviting. I laughed, cried, and fell in love with the Hollingsworth family! There are twists and turns that mimic all of our lives. A must read for all who love drama, romance, and feel-good stories. ( )

Lainey Hollingsworth was living a life she loved, she was a mother, married to someone she was deeply in love with and trusted beyond all doubt, had a terrific job managing her husband’s writing career, and lived where she always wanted to be – in her childhood home. Her life was not without trials, however. Lainey had a stepson Max, who after all these years still blamed her for the breakup between his parents. Her adoring father, who was actually her stepfather and the only father she had ever known, was living with them and was severely afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Lainey’s teenage daughter Tierney was searching for her grownup self, and that was causing friction where there had never been friction before. Her husband Tom was absent more and more and doubts started creeping in. When she received a text message, “Ask your husband about Julie” Lainey’s life, as she knew it, suddenly started unraveling.
Add to all of this was a planned trip to Italy to try to learn more about her family. Her mother left Italy with Lainey when Lainey was very young and never returned. She refused even at her death to tell Lainey about her biological father and why she took Lainey to England without ever looking back.
I thought Lainey Hollingsworth was a complicated protagonist. At the beginning of the book she was a strong woman who, as the story unfolded, soon became filled with uncertainties and insecurities. She was angry and came to her own conclusions about her husband’s absences without giving him a chance to explain. Words spoken, and left unspoken, lead to misconceptions. In the end and after suffering so much hurt, was Lainey's imagined “truth” reality?
This was storytelling at its finest. With memorable characters and intricate plot lines, the book kept calling me back. As I turned the last page, I was sad I’d come to the end of this amazing story. This was the first book by Susan Lewis that I have read, and it certainly won’t be the last. I look forward to delving into some of her other books. I recommend THE TRUTH ABOUT YOU to anyone who enjoys getting totally immersed in a story. It was fabulous.

I think this book was about 100 pages too long. While the general plot of Lainey trying to track down her heritage was interesting, it took a very long time to get to Italy where she could begin digging into her past. Then we had the very distracting side plot of Tierney and her escapades...why that was even included I can't imagine. It was hard to relate to Lainey and her emotions about what happened with Tom, because I personally would never tolerate that kind of behavior. And Max just seems to disappear at the end with no further info on repercussions with Nadia/Guy.
Having said all that, the characters were developed well, and the writing was very good. I would have preferred one of the three main plotlines, though, and stuck with it a bit better. Felt like too many chefs in the kitchen. ( )

I thought the book was well written and the characters well developed. That being said, I can't say that overall I really enjoyed the story. I found the main character, Lainey, to be maddening. She seemed to cause herself and her family much grief because she wouldn't just let people speak. She also was they type of parent that makes me crazy. I usually really enjoy this authors' books and this type of book, so I am assuming I just couldn't connect with the story in a personal way. Overall I would recommend this book to readers. ( )

Lainey and Tom have what seems to be an almost perfect life. Tom is a famous writer who is able to travel or write from home as need arises. Lainey works with Tom as an advisor and assistant, giving her flexibility in her schedule to be a mom to her young son Zav, her teenage daughter Tierney and her adult step-son Max who lives in the garage apartment of their home. A planned trip to Italy to discover her family roots is suddenly thrown in turmoil when Lainey receives an anonymous text telling her to "ask Tom about Julia". Tom's answer shocks Lainey to her core and she travels to Italy with the children, but without Tom. She learns about her family and the unique story of her origins. The reader is held in suspense until the end as to what will happen to the almost perfect life of Lainey and Tom. ( )
