The story keeps moving, which is good. The characters are multidimensional, which is also good. And, they almost all are 'crazy', suffering from PTSD, which is cleverly used to smooth the edges of the characters' motivations, and to justify their shared devotion to the drug being illegally tested on them. The doctors are all shady, whether they turn out to be good guys or bad guys, most of the rest of the non-patients are also shady, or not present in the story for long enough to care, and the list of actual 'good' guys becomes vanishingly small by the end of the book. I found the character motivations unconvincing, though, and there were so many dead bodies stacking up that I was quite surprised there was not a heavier police/FBI presence after about the first quarter of the book. The bit about why the pill the hero cut open was empty was glossed over, as if it was a mistake to have left in that scene, if Flood was not supposed to work, or maybe one or more of the characters were supposed to be getting a placebo but the rest of that thread didn't make the editor's cuts.
In short, there was plenty of action, and so long as I just kept reading non-stop, it was ok, but if I took a break it was hard to buy in to the story again once I returned to the book. I liked the twist at the end, but it seemed to be just tacked on at the end, rather than built in to the story all along. ( )

journey is on its way and now this time I read a book by Jeff Abbott. what a great story! it was like watching a great movie, full of excitements. every detail was planned carefully and I didn't managed to find any suspended sub-plot without relevance to the main story.
I read and actually there are many crime books here and there which contains no special story and most of them are considered as "Mystery" but frankly saying you cannot find any mysterious thing among the book. but this book did have a great mystery and all of the fantastic actions planned around that mystery and the end was like a bomb. I found this book containing deep characters with relatively complex but not confusing plot. I can say for sure that you cannot find couple of pages in this book that you can mark them as useless.
I put Jeff Abbott among my favorite authors from now on. what a fantastic feeling that I found another great author to feed my soul. ( )

eff Abbott är en författare med en mängd böcker bakom sig. Jag har dock aldrig hört talas om honom förrän nu och gissa om jag är glad över att ha hittat ännu en pärla inom thriller-genren.

Vårt förhållande började dock inte särskilt bra. På baksidestexten står det att Miles Kendrick ska försöka ta reda på vad det var som egentligen hände när han dödade sin bästa vän Andy. Till sin hjälp har han psykiatern Allison som genom regelbundna samtal ska ta honom tillbaka till händelserna för dådet.

Då jag är intresserad av psykologi kändes det som att det här var en bok som var klippt och skuren för mig. Så börjar jag läsa och redan första meningen (trots att den är skriven i kursiv stil!) gör att det går en känsla av extrem förväntan genom mig: ”Jag dödade min bäste vän.” Men bara några meningar nedanför står: ”Andy halvsatt mot bordskanten och såg på när han skrev”, och förvirringen var total.

Efter att ha läst ytterligare några sidor insåg jag att Andy förföljde Miles tankar så mycket att han kunde visualisera honom och till och med prata med honom. Där och då hade jag tänkt lägga ifrån mig boken för som ni torde veta vid det här laget gillar jag vare sig spöken eller oändliga kursiva avsnitt. Till slut gav jag boken en frist på tre kapitel och skulle jag känna samma frustration och leda efter det så skulle jag helt enkelt placera den i facket ”boken som jag helst vill glömma”.

Tre kapitel kom och gick och innan jag visste ordet av hade jag läst ut boken klockan tre på natten! Jag var vansinnigt trött när väckarklockan ringde klockan sex men det var det värt!

Black Out har allt som en bra thriller ska ha: tempot går ut hårt för att ständigt öka ända till det bittra slutet, här finns en skön mix av goda och onda människor, en skön mix av goda människor som visar sig vara onda och vice versa, en extremt spännande intrig som fullständigt tar andan ur en, detaljrika avsnitt som tillsammans med ytterst väl beskrivna miljöer gör att man själv tar klivet in i handlingen och beskådar det som sker på plats.

Fantastiskt!

Det enda som jag kan anmärka på är översättarens och/eller förlagets val av titel då originaltiteln verkligen speglar vad boken handlar om. Ren och skär skräck! ( )
