The Silver Moon includes many different lullabies. I have not heard of a few of them and enjoyed reading them all. I would give this book to a new mother or family that just had a little baby. It is important to read to your child at a very young age and this book would be great to add to a family library. ( )

The Silver Moon: Lullabies & Cradle Songs by Jack Prelutsky
Illustrated by Jui Ishida
Genre: Children's Poetry
Ages 4-8, Preschool to 3rd
Pages: Jacketed Hardcover
Date published:
Publisher: Greenwillow Books, HarperCollins Children's

At the end of this book for the musically inclined there is a 2-page spread of sheet music including four lullabies. I'm looking at an advanced copy of The Silver Moon, but I'm thinking the final book will be a children's library treasure and it's definitely on our wishlist. The illustrations throughout are soft, full color to the page and enchanting. I'm not sure if I have experienced the art of Jui Ishida before, but I believe she has made me with a fan of this one. Her illustrations remind me of elements that I enjoy in David Walker's pictures, but hers are even more vibrant. Jack Prelutsky is a legend in his own right and has, I suppose, thousands of poems to share with children. Some are fun and exciting yet others are soothing and calm. Mr. Prelutsky seems to have poetry available for all ages and this book specifically is for the nursery age sort. Surprisingly I think my favorite might be the "Bird Lullaby" in which just reciting bird names can be made enchanting and poetic.
