From what I gather, it was published as a series of chapters online before it was turned into a single volume. This accounts for occasional abrupt changes in focus throughout the book, but in no way hindered my enjoyment. I have always been faintly disappointed with the end of Harry Potter. I didn't appreciate how the magical world was presented as so far removed from RL--my brain wouldn't accept that fact. Later forays into the 'magic school' world have worked much better for me and this series, so far, is no exception. Onto book 2! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Knowledge is power. That would be the motto of Lander University, had it not been snatched up and used to death by others long before the school was founded. For while Lander offers a full range of courses to nearly all students, it also offers a small number of specialty classes to a very select few. Lander is home to the Hero Certification Program, a curriculum designed to develop students with superhuman capabilities, commonly known as Supers, into official Heroes. Five of this year's freshmen are extra special. They have a secret aside from their abilities, one that they must guard from even their classmates. For every one person in the world with abilities they can control, there are three who lack such skill. These lesser super beings, Powereds as they are called, have always been treated as burdens and second class citizens. Though there has been ample research in the area, no one has ever succeeded in turning a Powered into a regular human, let alone a Super. That is, until now . . . Some of the other reviews I have read mention that the writing is stilted and disjointed…while I don’t really agree with that assessment, I can see how some might feel that way. I also think that having “read” this book through audio may have contributed to my opinion on the writing; the narrator MADE this story so good!
It’s not writing that I would call beautiful but it didn’t cause me physical pain to listen to it either. Very few redundancies in phrases or scene set up. The perspective bounces from character to character in full chapters as well as short burst or snippets. This may be the contributor of the stilted and disjointed feeling others have expressed.
Great plot. Nice rise the the crux of the story. Sensible completion of the conflict and expert set up for the second book!
