"Rachel is supposed to be planning her wedding to Kash, the love of her life. After the crazy year they've had, she's ready to settle down and live a completely normal life. Well, as normal as it can be. But there's something else waiting--something threatening to tear them apart. Kash is ready for it all with Rachel, especially if "all" includes having a football team of babies with his future wife. In his line of work, Kash knows how short life can be and doesn't want to waste another minute of their life together. But now his past as an undercover narcotics agent has come back to haunt him...and it's the girl he loves who's caught in the middle. Trent Cruz's orders are clear: take the girl. But there's something about this girl that has him changing the rules and playing a dangerous game to keep her safe. When his time as Rachel's protector runs out, Trent will turn his back on the only life he's known--and risk everything if it means getting her out alive."--P. [4] of cover.… (más)

Deceiving Lies

The Characters

Rachel Masters
Logan Kash Ryan
Trent “Taylor” Cruz

The Story

This story was really good. Very layered. Rachel and “Taylor’s” relationship really surprised me. I still think Rachel needs to take some self defense classes.

The epilogue was EPIC! I loved every part of it.

The Random Thoughts

“Taylor” was a 24 year old, likely Latino guy, WHY did his narrator sound like a 40 year old white guy?

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Heart pounding thriller that leaves you breathless and full of emotion. I can’t stress enough how much I love Molly McAdams and this story is her at the top of her game!!!!

Opening Sentence: I nervously flipped my long hair over my shoulders and smoothed my hands down my shirt a few times as I took deep breaths in and out.

The Review:

Rachel survived a serial killer and she has finally found her way back to Kash, the love of her life. They are getting married in just a few short weeks and she couldn’t be happier. You would think that they have been through enough heartache a terror to last them a lifetime, but the worst is still to come.

Kash can’t believe that he has Rachel back in his life. He thought that he had destroyed any chance he had with her when he wasn’t a hundred percent honest with her about who he was and what he did for a living. Working as an undercover cop is very dangerous and Kash has collected a lot of enemies, but he never thought that the girl he loved would pay the price.

One dreadful night men come and take Rachel away. Kash will do anything to find her and he won’t stop until she is safe in his arms once again. Rachel is terrified, but her captor has somehow become her protector. She feels a bond with him that confuses her and she’s not sure who is the enemy and who to her ally!

Rachel is one of those girls you can’t help but love. She has a feisty attitude that goes on for miles. She can take all of Kash’s crap, but she also knows how to dish it out as well. Her journey has been very emotional. She lost both of her parents when she was in high school in a terrible accident. Then there was the whole serial killer business (that I’m not going to go into detail about because I don’t want to spoil the first book!). Even with all these obstacles, she hasn’t let them break her. Yes, she has a hard time and is still dealing with nightmares but she is still so strong. It was impossible not to respect Rachel and really sympathize with her. You would think that after everything she has been through she would get a break, but that’s not the case. She has one more obstacle she has to overcome and while it was heartbreaking to read about it, I loved the person she became because of it. Rachel is an amazing heroine that I loved and I am so glad I got to read her story.

Kash is just as sexy as ever. He is a man that knows how to get what he wants and if you are lucky enough to be a part of his life you should consider yourself lucky. His line of work hasn’t allowed him to let many people close to him because it is demanding and dangerous. When Rachel is taken I was introduced to a new side of Kash that I never saw before. You get to see what lengths he will go through to get her back and not everything he does is pretty. His devotion to Rachel never wavers and as a reader I fell even more in love with him.

Trent was the man charged with taking Rachel and holy cow, I think he was my favorite part of the entire story. He has been part of a gang for most of his life, but it was never what he wanted. Even though he has done terrible things to survive, deep down he is a good person. He didn’t have a choice when it came to taking Rachel, but he has done everything in his power to make sure that no physical harm comes to her while she is his captive. He is a very layered person and I loved everything about him.

Deceiving Lies was full of action, suspense, sexy times, and emotion. From the first page you are sucked in and it is one of those books that are just impossible to put down. I loved that the story was told from multiple perspectives, it helped me to understand and connect with all of the characters better. There’s not as much humor in this one as there was in the first book but there were still a few moments that had me cracking up. I love McAdams’ writing. Her stories are always entertaining and so much fun to read. I believe that this is the end of Rachel and Kash’s story, but there are companion novels for some of my favorite secondary characters in the works which makes me very happy. I will gladly read anything McAdams writes and I know that I will love it. I would highly recommend this series to anyone that loves a good thriller with lots of sexy times and humor!!!

Notable Scene:

“And why would I be in shock?” My heart started racing as Ramirez started hitting the OPEN DOORS button.

Ramirez shot us a strained, sympathetic look before ushering us out to the underground parking lot. “You weren’t informed?”

“Of what?” I was supposed to be in shock. So it had something to do with me. Everyone close to me starting flipping through my mind until a sinking feeling hit my chest and stomach. Oh God…Rachel. “What happened?”

“I’m sorry, I thought someone already told you, you were supposed to be informed already,” he mumbled to himself as he kept walking toward the lot. “Look I’m sorry I’m the one that has to tell you this.” He stopped walking abruptly and turned to look at me. His expression was one I had seen so many times, and had even had to use myself. It felt like time slowed as I waited for him to tell me one of fifty scenarios that were speeding through my mind. “A call came in to dispatch about an hour ago. It was your fiancée, Ryan. The only thing that came from her end of the call was her saying her name, someone had broken in—“

Where to begin with this book. I’m not sure but I have to say I think this was my least favorite book by Molly McAdams. I am a huge Molly fan so it pains me to say that and I LOVED Forgiving Lies. I promised when I started this to be honest so please don’t hate me but that’s what you will always get!

So lets start this, for me this book was sort of unnecessary all together(unless it falls into play later). Why put Rachael and Kash through more B.S. haven’t they suffered enough??? My biggest problem I think was the whole relationship between Rachael & Trent. It was odd to me, yes I know, I’ve heard about people being held captive falling in love with their captors and such but that clearly wasn’t the case here. Did she have feelings for him that pushed beyond the normal borders for me yes. There are definitive times in the book for me when I feel like the situation was more lust than a feeling of admiration or thankfulness. (I.E. the shower scene) Yes I know she didn’t go in looking or that but she didn’t exactly push it away either. And then I think of all this going on while Kash is falling apart in every way possible. Uggh it just kills me. And as far as Kash is concerned, yes he was wrecked and I’m not saying that Rachael wasn’t but from what you saw she kinda came to terms with what had happened to her pretty quickly. But at every turn Kash was crazed. So when he freaked out after finding her I can understand. I can even understand the space he was taking, he panicked, I think he handled the situation like most men would have. Especially not knowing exactly how Rachael felt or what exactly she wanted after what he had seen and heard. But as a woman I can totally blame him for that. I can even understand the choices he gave her in the end. I look at that whole situation as a choice, I don’t think in any way that it was a test. I think it was odd but fair of him to let her make the final decision on what she truly wanted. And so my last issue with this book is that I just don’t see Rachael no matter strong she is just bouncing back in a few months. Hell she’d been through a lifetime of horror with what Blake had done to her and now she was kidnapped again. I think it was glossed over a bit. Now with all of that being said, I was glad to see that they got semblance of normal back (even if I thought it was too soon). While this isn’t my favorite Molly McAdams book, it won’t stop me from reading her stuff. I will wait with bells on to see who exactly Mason is bringing home, I have my suspicions but in true Molly style, I never truly know what to expect!!
