He attends the costume contest as himself and gets close enough that he is spotted. But when the kids call out his name, he races back home. His mice friends give him a 1st price ribbon. He did his usual creaking of the stairs and squeaking of the doors. Georgie blew out the last lantern of the night. I liked the words for the story. I did not like the illustrations. I know it is supposed to be of ghost and costumes. I really think the illustrations could have been better than ink and a few orange spots. I would have the children write their own ghost story. I would also have them create their own costume mask out of paper plates. A shy little ghost is urged by his friends to enter the town's Halloween contest. It is held in the city park on Halloween night. He sneaks into the party and is spotted by the children who know him. They accidentally scare him away and he runs home. The mice in his attic give him a medal of their own. Cozy, charming little book with brownish and orange illustrations reminiscent of Marie Hall Ets books about "Mr. Penny". sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Georgie's Halloween is a sweet little story, one that is sure to appeal to younger children who prefer their ghost stories mild. The accompanying illustrations - in black and white, with orange accents - have all the old-fashioned charm I have come to expect from Robert Bright's work, and the three main characters (Georgie, Herman and Miss Oliver) are as endearing as ever. I was interested to see that all the local children knew Georgie by name in this one, and wondered how on earth that came to be, when Georgie is always portrayed as being so bashful and retiring. But in any case, this was another cute Georgie story, one particularly suited for reading at Halloween time! ( )
