This is book is about sunflowers and their cycle of life. Great book for showing kids how sunflowers can get planted naturally as well as point out each part of the flower even at the sprout before the flower shows. Ages 3-5 Pierce County Library

"This is the Sunflower," describes how sunflowers grow. The author starts off by telling the beauty of the sunflower, and how it lives in the flower patch of the garden. She describes how seeds come from the flower, and birds break the seeds. Then when the seeds fall back into the ground, the sunflower grows again.

The author uses repetition and rhyme throughout the story. This book was informational, and can be read to serve many different purposes, like teaching science or showing kids how to write with repetition and rhyme. The illustrations were colorful and showed this process well. ( )

This is the Sunflower is about a sunflower. The sunflower stands tall and bright in the garden day and night. The sunflower has a yellow, round blossom, and brown and black seeds in the blossom. Birds eat the seeds. Some seeds fall to the ground and after sunshine and rain, a path of sunflowers bloom in the garden.
The books tells a story about sunflowers, how they look, how they grow, and how more can grow around one. The book gives true, real information about sunflowers and growing sunflowers.
The beginning of the book follows a specific writteng style until the last few pages. The author re-writes what was written before and then continues to add one. As each page is turned, more and more is added to the original statement. The book is also written in rhymes.
The illustrations are two page spreads. The illustrations cover each page entirely with words written within the illustration.
In the back of the book each bird illustrated is described by their name. Cardinals, blue jays and more are named. On this page are also sunflower facts. This book would be a great way to give students information and introduce them to gardening, and lead to planting projects. ( )
