Funny how I loved the last book of the series the best.

This book was bittersweet. It was, IMO, the strongest of the recent books in the series, and it was also the last book in the series. I know, I know, Debora said there will be other books in this world and we'll see the characters again. But... this book seemed so final. There was foreshadowing of the future scattered throughout (which makes sense as the Lost Witch in the title is a precog), and there were a number of scenes that had me tearing up as the characters consider an eventual world without Moira. I've loved all of the books in the Modern Witch series and loved them all dearly. I usually rip through them, but not quite this quickly. This might be my favorite of all of them.

I don't know a thing about weaving and my yarn addiction needs no help but I might need to look into it, now! Or spinning... Those spindles sounded like fun. I loved how Caro's grandmother was called Oma - that's Dutch and a nice touch.

Yet again, it was the community the characters form, together with their kindness and generosity - as well as their flaws - that make me love these books so much.

Oh, and I want linguine. And a trip to Caro's yarn shop. And some of Aarons cooking. And go hear Cassidy play. And to see Aervyn and Kenna grow up. I have no idea what this new series will be, but can't wait to find out! ( )

Another heart wrenching addition to the Modern Witch Series by Debora Geary. I always read a Debora Geary book with Kleenex close by and I always use them. A Lost Witch is no exception but the crying started at the very beginning.

What I liked: Ms Geary's books have a lot of characters that appear and reappear through each of her books so far. The characters have become my friends. Yeah, I know they're fictional but they've drawn me in. They are all so very human. Most of the time I forget they are not real people.

Every single book I've read by Ms Geary has struck a chord with me. It's impossible to read one of her books and not feel something. Her books are about every day life, problems, sadness and most of all overcoming.

What I didn't like: Uh, nothing.

I'm not going easy here just because I like all her books. Some, I liked more than others but they are all entertaining and exquisite reads. I dare you to read one of her books and walk away without feeling a tug in the region of your heart. You should start at the very beginning of the series with A Modern Witch. ( )

Another trip through the lives of loving Witches (members of the Walker and Sullivan families located in either Berkley or Nova Scotia) who have taken it upon themselves to find and help untrained (and frequently disoriented and unaffiliated new Witches). This story finds them about to celebrate the impending wedding of Marcus Buchanan and Cassidy Farrell when their Witches locating program made a strange blip in their otherwise stable lives. While a full scale location beacon didn't materialize, there was a plea on the screen, "Help Me" that even though they were trying to shut down the distractions of the of the locating program until the wedding was over, this cry for help was much too compelling. The need for action was even more evident once they found the originator, Hannah, was found to be a resident in a long term mental care facility and held without a chance for parole. Of course, the resident Witches were offended and were ready to charge off to correct the obvious miscarriage of justice and free the imprisoned Witch. Luckily, wiser attitudes prevailed and they chose a cautious path the allowed them to avoid dumb choices. Once they evaluated the situation, they tried to find solutions that would allow them to help without distracting from the progress Hannah had made during the decade she had been under the care of a "Good" doctor.

Again, this story shares a deep felt love between the characters and allows them to blossom in each others company. If you have any empathy with characters you are reading about, you will have to enjoy the "LOVE" and might drift off into tears that seem to come from just being with these characters. I rate this a two tissue box or at least four hanky book and prepare to feel better about the world and the people you relate with in your life. Definitely a read of value! I highly recommend it. ( )

This is last book in this first series but not the last with these characters thankfully. The Lost Witch is darker than the previous novels but no less enjoyable. These books tell the story of a tight-knit, welcoming, fun loving and amazing group of people. Throughout the books while there is tons of fun and laughter there is always the undercurrent of danger and risk that their powers pose to the young and old among them. Hannah is presumably the last witch to be found by the fetching spell and the most at risk and in need of their help, guidance and love. Unbeknownst to Hannah her magic is the reason that she has been institutionalized for over a decade. Witch Central bands together to help her while facing some of the demons that are never far from their minds concerning the powers of some of their youngest members. All of these books in the Modern Witch series have been great and this latest did not disappoint. While Lauren is the only "fetched" witch featured predominantly here but through her we see how much the initial idea of the fetching spell has affected this community by seeing how far she has come as a person and how deeply her fetching added to the community between her best friend who came along for the ride, her mentoring of Lizard, her connection to Averryn and essentially bringing Devin back home. Looking forward of years of stories to come as promised by the author. ( )
