"If you're a Regency fan who likes unconventional heroines, pick this book up..."-Smart Bitches Trashy Books

Henry returns from war a tragically wounded hero. When he recruits the help of a beautiful and intelligent widow to woo her best friend, his suit takes a twist that neither of them could have forseen.

Henry Middlebrook has returned to England. Back from fighting Napoleon, Henry is ready to re-enter London society where he left it. Wounded and battle weary, he decides that the right wife is all he needs. Selecting the most desirable lady in the ton, Henry turns to her best friend and companion to help him with his suit...

Young and beautiful, war widow Frances Whittier is no stranger to social intrigue. She finds Henry Middlebrook courageous and manly, unlike the foppish aristocrats she is used to, and is inspired to exercise her considerable wit on his behalf.

But she may be too clever for her own good, and Frances discovers that she has set in motion a complicated train of events that's only going to break her own heart...

Fans of Regency Romance authors like Sabrina Jeffries, Julia Quinn and Stephanie Laurens will delight in this witty, Cyrano de Bergerac-style romance.

I wanted to like this a great deal more than I did. There were genuine friendships, real familial ties, letter-writing, and best of all, women with sexual desire who didn't feel ashamed of it or shamed others about it. Unfortunately, I never really connected to any of the characters. Henry's motivations for wanting to marry Caroline felt contrived and not at all convincing and the writing lessons with Frances also felt contrived. It seemed presumptuous for someone to ask such a thing after meeting maybe once. Frances' revelation didn't really strike me either. The allusions to her past were wimpy and the big reveal was kind of glossed over. I did really like that Henry's injury wasn't healed by the power of Twue-Wuv. Overall, I found the language to be unevenly anachronistic. I may try another book by this author, but it's not going to be a priority. ( )

I am not a huge fan of the "in love with the heroine's best friend plot", but, yes it worked and I will ell you why.

1. First Henry was never in love. His brother and sister-in-law told him that she would be a good wife and that he should marry.

2. Frances makes a BIG mistake so she really has herself to blame when Henry thinks Caroline likes him.

3. When he gets to know Frannie he starts to like her.

4. Frannie already likes him, and cos of the Mistake she makes it all worse.

5. This book has a HEA so we all know it will end well.

There you have it, in 5 points why the plot worked for me.

In other news, I wonder who will be the next hero or heroine. I want Caroline to get a HEA. And I want a story where an old friend of Henry's gets his HEA. I do love when a book has interesting side characters you want more of.

A cute romance where mistakes are made but love is found. ( )

IT TAKES TWO TO TANGLE by Theresa Romain is an engaging Regency Historical Romance 1815 England. The first in her new and exciting trilogy, "The Matchmaker". Wooing the wrong woman could be dangerous or a terrible mistake for a wounded Napoleon weary soldier. War widow, Frances Whittier and war weary Henry Middlebrook are headed for disaster or at the very least one of them may need up with a broken heart. If Shakespeare only knew..... Filled with passion, wit,a bit of humor, two engaging characters, and a boat load of trouble. You do not want to miss "It Takes Two To Tangle" for it does take two plus a whole lot of romance for love to appear on the horizon. How can you go wrong? You can't! So go and pick up this intriguing story of Frances and Henry!! What an great read from a talented Regency author! A must read! Received for an honest review from the publisher.
