Englishman Lake Benson loaned his life savings to his dippy sister so that she could buy a shop. It was a big mistake. His sister has been steadily flushing his money down the drain – and now he wants it back. Years in the special forces taught Lake that if you want a job done, do it yourself. So he steps in to make the shop profitable, sell it and get his money back. The only problem is, the business is an underwear shop. And all Lake knows about underwear can be summed up in how fast he can unsnap a bra. To make matters worse, the tiny highland town already has a lingerie shop. A successful one, run by an ex-lingerie model. A very gorgeous ex-lingerie model, who’s distracting him from his mission more than he’d like to admit. If Lake wants to get his savings back, and get out of Scotland, he only has one option – wipe out the competition.

Kirsty Campbell has spent years rebuilding her life after she woke up in hospital in Spain to find her body scarred, and her ex-fiance had run off with all her money. The last thing she needs is a cocky, English soldier-boy trying to ruin all she has left. Her home town is only too happy to help her fight the latest English invasion, although Lake is beginning to sway them with his sex appeal and cut price knickers. With the help of her mother, and the retired ladies of Knit or Die, Kirsty sets about making sure that her shop is the last one standing in Invertary.

It’s Scotland versus England as you’ve never seen it before. It’s lingerie war

I am not sure if it because it's British based so I can relate but I laughed so much I was crying.
Typical small village mentality, some silly but very funny shenanigans.
Behind all the humour though are some serious issues, Kirsty, the heroine is badly scared and it deals with her learning o overcome her change in life.

4.5 STARS! This novel is a riot!

This novel is hilarious. Full of snarky quips and scheming. Plenty of steam too as Lake and Kirsty work out all their "tensions" during their lingerie war.

Reader Rated for ages 17 for somewhat detailed fade-out sensuality and implied sex; also contains mild swear words and violence. ( )

While I mostly enjoyed this novel, the first three-quarters of it seemed to be going in circles- lots of the same old scene occurring repeatedly. This did not build tension, since there was really no escalation in the stakes; it just kept re-treading the same ground.

That being said, a redeeming feature is the excellent secondary characters, who were often weird, very idiosyncratic, and a lot of fun.

The romance was fine. Somewhat long on both the heavy-breathing and the antagonism between the lovers, but that's a trope.

One comment: Henderson might wish to explore ways to evoke character responses other than narrowing their eyes. This happened so often- sometimes multiple times per page- that it almost felt like a running joke. Oddly, I did not find it as annoying as Jim Butcher's overuse of "said quietly"- once 5 times per page (and yes, by that point I was counting)- but a few more ways to describe emotional reactions would liven things up. I read this book a while ago, and still love it and sometimes I go back. This book is hilarious. Loved Lake and Kirsty, and was glad that they got together and had nice romance. Betty made the book, she was awesome, and then you had the Knit or Die woman, this town is crazy. Could have done without Rainne, she annoyed me, liked Alistair, but he deserved someone better. The Donaldson twins, again awesome.. Truly enjoyable story. ( )

Totally thought the book was going to be more than it was.. What it wasn't was something that I will read the series too. I think that it had potential but it was "far" from sexy or fun. 2 stars only because I save 1 for books that I totally can't even give a number too.
