Her Sister Couldn’t Be Alive … Could She? It had to be Riley Jo. She was certain. . .wasn’t she? But when Abby Cummings tells her mother she thought she saw her sister at the store, her mother quickly dismisses the idea. After all, Riley Jo and their father had been missing for years. Presumably dead. Yet Abby cannot ignore her intuition. Telling her friend J. D., they investigate. But J. D. may know more about the disappearance than he’s telling, or even realizes. And as they work to uncover what happened, all they have to go on is blind faith. Will it be enough . . . especially considering what the truth might be? Review: I found this book to be very exciting. The characters were believable along with the story line. I liked the theme and the twists and turns throughout the book. It was a tragic story from the start. I liked how Abby had a nose to the grindstone mentality to finding her family. She was quick thinking for the most part and was a very determined young woman. I do not normally read stories where the main character is under 20. But this mystery was gripping and the development of the entire area, people and storyline was enough to draw me in deeply. I would like to thank Net Galley and David C Cook for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. Kathy Herman is a favorite author among many of the members of By The Book. She creates a suspenseful and realistic story with characters the reader comes to care about. Not By Sight is another winner from this talented author. Abby was a young girl when her father and sister go missing. After five years she is still looking for them even though the rest of her family have given up hope of ever uncovering the mystery of their disappearance. Her dogged determination to uncover the truth and her faith in a miracle drive her and her friend Jaye into danger. With a unanimous thumbs up, my group recommends Not By Sight for those who love suspense. There are lots of twists to this story and the reader is often aware of things before the characters. This actually adds to the tension for the reader. We had a great discussion of characters’ motivations, the heart break of missing family members and just what it means to live by faith. Recommended. Great For Book Clubs. Title: Not by Sight (Ozark Mountain Trilogy) Author: Kathy Herman Pages: 402 Year: 2013 Publisher: David C. Cook Focused on a fictional family named Cummings, there is action laced throughout the novel. One day a father with his youngest daughter in tow go out for time together, and then they simply disappear. Kate the wife of Micah and mother of Hawk, Jesse, Kate and Riley Jo finds her faith as well as her life shattered. For Kate and her grandfather Buck who lives with the family, they cling tenaciously in faith to God waiting for him to bring about the ending they all hope is a happy one. The setting for this story takes place in the Ozark’s with the Cummings family owning a lodge which offers many different activities but above all a breath taking view. Five years later a discovery is made that changes the present and future of the Cummings family as well as Kate’s best friend. Jay grew up has been best friends with Kate for as long as he can remember. When he turns 12 years old he inherits a family heirloom that while he sentimentally values there was some other desire he hoped to have fulfilled. While some members of the Cummings family are struggling to take one day at a time with an unknown future due to the discovery Jay now knows he can no longer run away for his past. Jay wonders if when he divulges his past, if he will still be embraced by the Cummings family more concerned that Kate would no longer want his friendship. As the reader turns the pages the suspense thickens, the action begins to heighten the mystery behind the more than just one family’s nightmare. For me it seemed as though characters had to choose whether to live by faith or not too which determined the peace their hearts contained. I loved the mystery within a mystery which expands the action to include more than the reader is shown at first. The characters can be identified with I would think by anyone who has gone through traumatic life experiences, including making each day something to be valued instead of taken for granted. I can’t wait for book 2 of this series to be released to see how the lives of the various players come to certain conclusions. Romances are just beginning to bloom, the holidays in the story are approaching and the future is brighter than it has been in years. I found myself not wanting to take a break from reading because I wanted to see how things were going to turn out in the novel. I think readers will thoroughly enjoy the suspense, mystery, romance and faith filled novel Not by Sight. My rating is 5 stars. Five years ago, Abby’s father and two year old sister disappeared without a trace. At the beginning of the book, Abby sees a young girl in town and she is sure that it is her missing sister. She takes a photo with her cell phone but when she shows the photo to her mother, her mother refuses to listen. Abby is determined to continue the search for her sister and her best friend Jay offers his help. As they work at gathering information about the young girl, Abby receives a call from an unknown man who insists that she stop the search. When the same man calls the second time, Jay hears the voice and a long forgotten memory comes back to haunt Jay. Abby and Jay will not stop the search and their perseverance pays off for they do locate the girl but then trouble really begins to happen. The author did an excellent job writing suspense into the story and by the time I finished reading the book I had no fingernails left. She also did a great job in the development of the characters and their dialogue and actions. Many times I wanted to shake the mother and tell her to wake up and listen to her daughter but then I would think that had I gone through what she had I might have acted the same way. The plot was filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing as to what would happen next. Having lived near Beaver Lake many years ago, I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery in the area. I was impressed with the way that the author handled the family’s faith in God. The mother and older son had lost faith but the other members were strong in their faith. Many times the only thing that Abby and Jay had as they searched for Riley Jo was their faith in God. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes a wonderful story filled with adventure, suspense, budding romance, family love, and the love and forgiveness of God. I received a complimentary copy of this book from David C. Cook at Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
