Warrior-in-training Gwent Frost is out to find an antidote to save her friend's life in the New York Times bestselling author's YA urban fantasy novel.

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can't get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquitiesâ??until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I'm still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.
As Nike's Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I'm still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. On one hand I was happy that a secret from Gwen's family was only partially, not fully, given the 'perfect happy' resolution. On the other Gwen listed out ALL the horrific things that happened to her in just ONE year...much like a lot of YA heroes/heroines I have to wonder how is she not batshit crazy from all the physical and mental trauma?!

--

Another Mythos book another shot at killing Gwen another ahahahaha good try Reapers from the Good Guys. Look the books have a formula and they stick to that formula with all the tenacity of a Spartan. Thing is that even though I can pretty much guess the story arc's 'pivotal' moments I enjoy the living hell out of these books.

This time around we get to see Gwen and her Scoobies go to a different Mythos Academy and figure out what they have to do to avoid the Reapers' very obvious trap. I'm rather concerned by the body count in each new book. The Reapers really don't seem to have a concept of life and that's worrisome. Even Voldemort's Deatheaters seemed to have a concept of self preservation--these guys don't and it makes me wary. What exactly is Loki promising them that makes them so willing to toss aside their life? Ultimate power? Not so much good when the likelihood you'll die is very high.

They should consider changing their names to "Loki's Cannon Fodder" because that's what they've become. Or "Loki's Red Shirts". Ha! I'm surprised that joke hasn't been made...

We learn more about Gwen's father (Tyr Forseti)'s family and I have to say that I'm glad Estep avoided the obvious handwave to make everything rosy. In the end although a redeeming was at hand, possibly, it doesn't negate the fact that bad stuff happened and consequences are part of that. It did raise a lot of questions, questions that won't likely receive answers, but Estep handled it all without devolving into way too sweet territory.

For those worried about what happened between Gwen and Logan last book (and Logan's general overall attitude throughout his novella "Spartan Frost")...well there's consequences. Estep doesn't make light of the fact that Logan almost committed a horrible wrong against Gwen, but she does make it clear that Gwen understands it wasn't really Logan. That doesn't do much for her nightmares, but I found I liked the Estep didn't make it a 'Love means forgetting' moment. Gwen remembered. Logan remembered. They both had to deal with it in their own ways before learning to deal with it together.

The examination of Gwen's other half of the genetic code was interesting, though largely left nebulous since those who could answer a lot of the questions are dead and those who maybe could answer like cryptic riddle games instead. Its set up so that there can be more Frost-Forseti fun in the future and I for one would LOVE to see that go down at Gwen's Mythos Academy.

All in all if you're enjoying the series you'll enjoy this installment. I def wouldn't start it if you haven't read the previous novels, but maybe dangle "intriguing plot developments!" in front of a wary reader to get them to bite. ( )

I LOVE THIS SERIES!

Review to come!

REVIEW!!
Such a great book and series. Cannot recommend it enough.

There are times when you need a good YA fix. Thank goodness for the Mythos Academy books because they absolutely hit the spot every time.

In this installment Gwen and co travel to find the antidote for a poisoned Nikamedes. Logan is MIA trying to deal with the events from the previous book.

We learn a lot about the other deities in this book and their relationship to each other and to their champions.

We also learn a HUGE big deal secret about Gwen and her family.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this series. Can’t wait for the next one! ( )

I liked this book but not quite as much as I liked the previous book in the series. This book takes Gwen and some of her friends on a trip to a different Mythos Academy location and as a result, I think that the book had a bit of a different feel. I think that the other thing that made this book feel a bit different is the fact that Logan wasn’t around for much of the book. Don’t worry, he does play a part in this story but I missed him a bit during part of the book. This was still a very solid installment in a series that I have been really enjoying.

Gwen and her friends must travel to one of the other Mythos Academy schools to find a rare flower needed to save the school’s librarian after an attack meant for Gwen goes wrong. While there, Gwen meets a girl with whom she shares a bond and learns some things about her heritage. This book had all of the action and Reaper attacks that I have come to expect from the series along with enough God and Goddess interactions to keep things very interesting. Oh, and did I mention the griffins? Yeah, I love the griffins.

Tara Sands has done a remarkable job in bringing this series to life. I think that her voice fits the character perfectly. I love how consistent her character voices have been throughout the series. I listened to this book for hours at a time and feel that the narration added to my enjoyment of the story.

I would recommend this book to others. This is the fifth book in the Mythos Academy series which is a series that really should be read in order. The next book is the final book in the series so I am incredibly eager to see how everything will be wrapped up. ( )

This is another great book in the Mythos Academy series and I am not disappointed in how it played it. In this book the Reapers have not given up on trying to kill Gwen and once again the Library is the place where all the action is. Gwen and friends now have to race and find an antidote for a friend that has been poisoned. Along the way is some trials for them to face and we also learn some more about Gwen's past and her heritage.

Midnight Frost by Jennifer Estep
Book 5 for the Mythos Academy. Best read as part of the series. YA urban fantasy.
The adventures continue. The Reapers of Chaos are stealing artifacts. It’s up to Gwen and her friends to save the artifacts and fight off the Reapers. But they must be careful as there are traitors in their midst.

A pulse pounding adventure of suspense, friendship, fighting for good, and learning your own value.
I enjoyed the camaraderie and the gryphons. I look forward to the next and last in the series. ( )
