Hockey player Jason Monroe lives a double life-star defenseman and soon-to-be Olympian on the ice and closeted gay man outside the rink. A serious relationship is out of the question, and Jason makes do with anonymous sex in barroom bathrooms, not willing to take the chance on coming out as gay in a decidedly macho sport.Advisor to the US Olympic hockey team Patrick Parker knows a thing or two about being a professional hockey player who's not out. He's fifteen years older than Jason, and when he senses the sexy younger man is interested, he knows he shouldn't give in to the attraction. The two men can't keep their hands off each other, though, and with each heated encounter it gets harder to hide their relationship. Then their world blows up around them, forcing them into the limelight. Will their love survive or be put on ice?… (más)

This is the first book by Cassandra Carr that I've read and I liked it well enough that I would read more by her. My wish would have been that more of the emotional aspect of their relationship was explored. Since both MCs are deep in the closet and both travel extensively with their respective teams, the few times Jason and Patrick get together it's all about the physical aspect of their sorta-kinda relationship. And that really is understandable but I guess I had a bit of trouble then jumping to a serious, life-changing, emotional relationship. ( )

At first I was a bit hesitant reading about a MM romance, but Cassandra Carr’s professional attitude towards the MM scene was a revelation to me. I loved reading the story because it portrayed so much love and understanding about male relationships that it actually was hot to read.

Found this on my kindle, and wondered where did it come from; also whispersync; I usually read/listen to those immediately. Few pages in and I remembered why, I abandoned the book in 2014! Even the covered has changed on Amazon.
This is the second try, since I have the book and all.

First, we should take a moment and appreciate the cover..... Done? Onto the review.

We started the book with an erection. Yes I am serious. I actually liked it because it set the tone for the entire book; this book is brimming with sex. Every time they got into a room with each other one of them was immediately dropping to his knees to get the other off. There is oral sex, anal rimming, anal sex, masturbation and, in my favourite scene, phone sex. It is a very steamy ride and I really did get hot under the collar; Cassandra Carr always writes such delicious sex scenes.

Although these two couldn’t keep their hands off each other, there was many things keeping them apart. Neither of them was out and both were completely paranoid about what it would do to their career to do so. This completely believable story-line was quite heart-breaking to read about; no one should have to choose between love and career but it happens more and more. Their relationship also fell on dodgy ethical grounds. Patrick was in a position of power over Jason and they could see this could create issues from the outside. At no point did I, as a reader, doubt either of their intentions towards each other. Yes, they both became attached incredibly fast but I knew it was for real.

I really enjoyed the characters. Both heroes came across as strong, masculine men and this made their tender moments even more precious. There was a lot of rough housing and ribbing, but these moments were punctuated by “honey” and other platitudes. There was no real dominant partner and I enjoyed the way they both supported each other in the development of their first gay relationships. The ending did seem rather abrupt and I would hope that there is more to see from these two so I can see how they get on. I will add that I would have liked to have seen them come out for a different reason than they did; it didn’t feel like it was completely their choice but I don’t know if it could have happened any other way!

I love MM romance and this was certainly a hot little number. I would class this as an Erotic novel with a slice of romance and the combination worked well for me. The angst surrounding the closeted nature of their relationship kept the story moving nicely but I found the erratic timing of their meetings left me a little confused as to the timeline of this one. It is only a little quibble but I can't actually say whether this relationship happened fast or slow because I just got a little lost with the timings.

This is a very steamy read that I recommend you read with a glass of ice water. I hope that Cassandra Carr carries on in the MM genre as this was a very promising start. ( )
