The Girl Who Wouldn't Brush Her Hair is a story of a girl who doesn't want to brush her hair. It is a funny and over the top story of this girl who doesn't like brushing her hair. Because she neglects her hair, eventually a mouse comes to live in her hair. Then more come to live in her hair and eventually she has a mouse castle in her locks. She soon finds out it is not easy to have mice living in her hair. ( )

In this book a girl who wouldn't brush her hair soon finds her head to turn into a house for mice. Soon, the make her stop bathing so that they won't drown and kids at school didn't want to be near her because she stunk. Eventually, she gets tired of the trouble the mice are causing her and asks them to leave, then following up with a nice bath and a good hair brushing.
This story is a good example of fantasy because there is an imaginative situation. Mice cannot live in someone's hair. While the characters and the character's reactions to mice in her hair are realistic, the fact that there are mice living in her hair makes the story unrealistic.

This book is about a little girl who did not brush her hair simply because it was her "way". Soon her hair was such a mess that mice began moving in. These mice could not swim and so the girl quit taking baths in order to accommodate them. Soon she began to smell bad and she had about 100 mice in her hair. One day she went to school and her teacher told her that she could no longer bring her doll, Baby, to school with her because she already had friends, the mice. She went home and had a talk with them and they moved out. She went to shower and for the first time, she brushed her hair! She returned to school to find that the girl next door had 100 mice living in her hair.

My reaction to this book was that I had a good chuckle from it. I grew up having really thick, and frizzy curls, so I rarely brushed my hair. People could lose a finger in my tangled mess. I felt I could relate to the girl because just like her, not brushing my hair was "...just my way!' I learned my lesson eventually when I kept getting bugs caught in hair once season came around. Now I brush my hair everyday!

In the classroom, this book is excellent for backing the idea of hygiene. Children have a tendency to touch things that we otherwise wouldn't. This includes animals. Aside from this, children need to be taught proper hygienic routines so that they could take care of themselves. This would also be a fun learning activity for kids learning to count to 100. You could have them draw 100 mice on paper. It'll connect with the story they had just read so they would have their attention and interest on it for the time. You could use that to your advantage as a time to take up a lesson.

Just like most every other book I have reviewed one of the major things that popped out to me was the fact that this book's colorful illustrations really brought this story to life. Second, thing, I saw throughout this book as well was the vocabulary which really matched the grade level this book was for. Overall the main purpose of this story is that is that sometimes we have to make decisions that we aren’t happy with but we still have to make them. ( )
