The setting of this book is in 1861. Charley Goddard tells the story; he is the main character and is fighting for the north side of the Civil War. Charley becomes “blood thirsty” after many of his friends and comrades die. One quote from one of Charley’s friends is, “They don’t come to pick up men with belly wounds.”
Charley Goddard lied about his age to get into the army. He is really fifteen at the time when he had to be eighteen to join the army. Each war Charley goes through has its own climax and resolution.
Soldier’s Heart is a very good book to read. If you like books about the civil war and books that really make you feel like you are actually in the story you should read this book. If this book was a series I would want to keep reading it, I think you would too. ( )
