Annabel, a police analyst, finds her neighbor's body badly decomposing. She notices that the number of people in the area dying from natural causes, but found alone and decomposing, are significantly higher than in previous years. Colin, a city worker, is troubled, and has a bizarre idea about helping people "transition" out of their misery. He also has a strange sexual fixation. I liked Annabel, I didn't like Colin--not just because of his idiosyncrasies, but he was a completely unlikeable person. I did like the parts about analyzing the data, but thought Colin's account was tedious. I think some of the book could have been deleted, and it would have been more enjoyable. I liked part of the book... but it took a long time to get to it. After the body was found...we just met individual characters over and over. To make matters worse the individual characters didn't even tell a part of the story. The whole thing became very hum-drum and you had to wonder why they were even there. I really expected much more for this book from the description. Oh well...you can't win them all. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Haynes returns with a disturbing and powerful tale that preys on our darkest fears.Police analyst Annabel wouldn't describe herself as lonely. Her work and the needs of her aging mother keep her busy. But Annabel is shocked when she discovers her neighbors decomposing body in the house next door, and she is appalled to think that no one, including herself, noticed the womans absence. Annabel sets out to investigate, despite her colleagues; lack of interest, and discovers that such cases are frighteningly common in her hometown.A chilling thriller and a hymn to all the lonely people whose individual voices haunt its pages, Human Remains shows how vulnerable we are when we live alone, and how easily ordinary lives can fall apart when no one is watching"-- No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
