"The gods will be turned to ash! The World Tree burns as the forces of Surtur, Lord of Muspelheim, scorch the Nine Realms with the irrepressible blaze of war. Loyalty to blood stands above loyalty to realm as the warriors of Asgardia and Vanaheim battle one another while the ever-hungry flames of rebellion feast on the destruction. And in the heart of conflict stands a boy. The plots and schemes of Loki set into motion during his adventures across the Nine Realms come to an explosive conclusion that brings the legendary heroes of myth to their knees! When the God of Thunder, Thor, falters in battle, will placing his trust in his beloved brother Loki -- the boy god, lord of mischief-- be Asgardia's salvation or their undoing?" -- dust jacket back.… (más)

So this was much better than I thought it would be. I've always thought Thor was kind of corny as a superhero but I love fantasy and this all took place in fantasy worlds so I loved it. The story was really pretty complicated and I would suggest reading earlier works before attempting this one. I definitely feel like I missed out on some things. ( )

OMG Right in the feels! Through the journey Kieron made me truly love Loki, and this conclusion is so bittersweet! I can't wait to see what he does with the Young Avengers. ( )

I started reading Marvel comics with Journey into Mystery, V1. I wanted to know the story of the newly reincarnated child Loki. Everything Burns brings that story full circle with a brilliant story full of clever twists worthy of the God of Mischief, and exciting action as only the God of Thunder can deliver.

Each of the previous four volumes of JiM was seemingly a standalone adventure, all connected by the child Loki. In this crossover of The Mighty Thor and Journey into Mystery, readers see all of Loki’s actions coming back to bite him in the ass; or, coming to fruition as part of a grand scheme set in motion before he died during Siege! The authors’ storytelling was so adept that it had me on the edge of my seat as to whether Loki was truly redeemed, or a cleverer villain than anyone could have guessed (I won’t spoil by saying which).

In JiM V2, Loki freed Surtur, the Lord of Muspelheim, in order to ensure Thor’s victory against the Serpent. Now, Surtur is setting fire to the entirety of the Nine Realms, using the power of the Manchester Gods, who Loki helped achieve ascendance over Otherworld in V4, to bring about the destruction of everything. Even gods will burn! Surtur reignites the Aerir/Vanir war to keep Thor and Asgardia too busy to directly oppose him, and at the same time, the machinations of the All-Mothers to use Loki as their spy has come to light and turned Asgardia against them. It is Loki who will be the destruction, or salvation, of them all.

The art is beautifully rendered and I felt like I was right in the middle of the action – and there is plenty of it. But, the best part of the story is Loki. His scheming is astonishing and emphasizes exactly why the character has been such a popular and formidable supervillain over the decades. Throughout the book, he bargains with and manipulates everyone from Thor to Surtur himself. Overall, I could not put this book down and highly recommend it. I cannot wait to read more from Marvel.
