Coming at it expecting a novel, I just couldn’t lose myself in the story as it was presented. Perhaps I’ll pick it up when I’m in the right frame of mind but, until then, I’m shelving it. carrie734 | Nov 26, 2022 | It's a good bit of fun, and some parts of it are even great, but I dunno. There are many moments of Tarantine-style over-explaining of already belabored film references. There's plenty of the smug heavy-handedness of Joss Whedon knowing what you as an audience expect, and delivering it to you in exactly the way you expect it, hoping for a fist-pumping "Yeah!" of fandom but eliciting, instead, a bored sigh. Can we maybe try something a little new, a little unexpected? I dunno. I got confused from time to time with what was going on, but I loved the way it was told, and finding all of the hidden (or not so hidden) call outs to movies/music. I really liked every minute of this! (
