Well, it didn't suck. Yo-Yo made his mark as a tapeworm and *gasp* Basilisk is HYDRA! Um.... yeah.

And anyway! There was a bit of a Deus Ex going on here with triple agents and *bullshit* hypnosis crapola.

Yo-Yo was actually the bright spot, now that I think about it. Maybe he really IS indestructible? That's pretty awesome, considering what he went through. Too bad Deadshot done got shot dead. Not like I really believe it. This is DC after all. All the deadun's will come back. I read Blackest Night. I know shit. :) (Even if the shit I know is Revision 3, not Revision 4... but who's *really* paying attention, sí, cabròn?)

Maybe this one could have been a bit better, but at least the art was pretty cool and there was enough Flash to keep me awake.

Oh.. no.. I didn't mean Flash. I meant flash. Glam, LimeLight.. um, no, I got that wrong, too. Lime got squeezed. There is no Flash in this comic. I repeat. There is no Flash in this comic.

I'm reading this for Harley, but the Amanda Waller backstory didn't hurt at all. ( )

Even though she barely appeared, I fault this title harshly for Harley Quinn's redesign. ( )

At the end of the last book, Harley Quinn tried to take over the prison and escape to go to the police station and get the Joker's face that the cops had. She shot Deadshot and as a result, his aim is now off. Lime is dead, King Shark ate Yo-Yo Man and Boomerang is no longer with them. Harley ended up in a coma and the team is on ice for now.

Harley Quinn wakes up from the coma with the identity of Doctor Harleen Quninzel mostly in charge. But there's no rest for the wicked and they're immediately sent out on a mission. When they return the real work begins and the toughest foe they've ever faced is coming their way. Waller wants them to go after Basilik the head of an army of followers of criminals.

Light, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, Iceman, Diablo, and Black Spider (a civilian vigilante ninja) head out with others on a plane but the plane is sabotaged. Deadshot had been warned by Waller that there is a traitor on the team. Someone has been feeding info to the Basilik But that's the only info Waller shares with the team. As usual, she keeps important information they need back and leaves them to be surprised when they get there.

Of course, they have to get there first. They come across some Mayans who practice the ancient art of sacrificing to their gods and have no idea how to get out of this situation. This volume was even better than the first one. You get to know Waller better and find out how the Suicide Squad was formed. Harley's acting like a psychiatrist some of the time and not her usual wacko self and you don't know who to trust. I highly recommend this book. ( )

The first Volume of Suicide Squad set the stage and introduced the players. This second volume ups the ante by providing a nemesis for the team, in the form of the Basilisk organization, as well as backstory on some of the main players, such as the handler Amanda Waller. And once again, no one is safe and some unexpected casualties occur.

This series continues to deliver the goods with good twists, including double agents, some spectacular action sequences and more of Harley’s crazy banter. I also like how the writers pepper the story with references to the wider DC universe. Some of their missions go through Gotham or Metropolis, and the Squad has to avoid the attention of Batman and Superman in order to succeed. Despite being criminal loners, the villains are starting to become a team. I’m curious to see where that goes and whether sentiment might get in the way at some point.

Overall, this serious is darkly funny and gruesomely violent. I’m hooked and can’t wait for more. Highly recommended. ( )
